Funny thing people actually believed Nvidia did not foresee driver alterations. It's true they didn't communicate in-depth about their solution, but it's still funny to see how people's minds fill in the blanks.

I want to see if this is true. If there is some sort of validation required at the silicon level with cryptography and all, that's interesting for sure.

Huh? Your comment is genuinely incomprehensible to me. I don't understand what you're trying to say
BTW The 3070 100% does not need more than 8GB. I have one and played at 4K and rarely got above 7GB in new AAA titles. At 1440p it's absolutely enough.
I have to disagree. I have a 6800 and play at 5120x1440 and have run into a few games that have gone above 8GB for me. BF5, 7 Days to Die, Cyberpunk are just a few I can think of off the top of my head. These are just current gen and last gen games. I wouldn't doubt in the next year or two 1440p can easily use 8GB and then some

middle earth lotr games also can use more than 8gb if you turn up settings. i also have a 6800 and its been rock solid for me. wish I had the XT though, but its all good.

on-topic: I think this move by Nvidia is still redundant, the problem is the supply and limited silicon production... all of it including the 3060 will still sell out, its a simple matter of demand and supply and these few factories that can make this stuff are also sharing their production time with other products. but eh.

Same, mine has been great so far. One of the best cards I've owned. Efficient, incredibly quiet and looks fairly simple but sleek. I'm the same as I wish I could have gotten the XT.

Now if I could somehow get to the root of my problem with short quarter second stutters in certain games I'd be golden (usually only games that are procedurally generated it appears), like 7D2D and now Valheim.

I have had no stuttering on my end, if Valheim had a free demo I would give it a try, that is a game I plan to buy, but waiting a bit longer on it for patches. It is early access after all.

side note, I run the FPS cap 2 fps below my monitors reported refresh rate (amd drivers now have a built in fps cap limiter) so i use that, make sure vsync is off in drivers and in game, and keep freesync on and my fps limiter) its been golden for me. can def tell freesync is working, everything feels very smooth

I was eyeing that very card to buy, it was at a very good price here at one point. The power usage put me off... lol I am sure I could have sold that bad boy for 3x the price today haha.
i would have gotten 2 but cf was dead and 5700xt was around the corner but its a beast when you unlock it
for a moment all gpu price are crazy, 5months ago i sold my vega64 with water block for ÂŁ160, now if we look ebay, the average price 400 and up :))
yeah i cant even find a gpu to save my life
I knew I should have got one of those
:banghead: :)
It's insane right? I sold mine recently which paid for a lot of the cost of a 3090.
that's a good flip

just tried out mining with it

A little late move, but how efficient is 45 MH / s at 250W? It was discussed. A good price is essential for a miner to buy.

If we don't see them @ the $330 MSRP, I don't give a damn nVidia, also you needed these limitations on the hardware level, driver limitations can always be removed/bypassed by someone smart enough. The damage has been done, we just moved within the 6th month of the launch of these products. Now I guess you will start throwing your next RTX4000 lineup in our faces while people paid through their asses just to get a little gaming card that won't even last till RTX5000, **** YOU!
Nvidia is limited to this on GPU and vBIOS, but I don't know if this can be overcome. I think this is difficult.

Allocated or used? Black Ops 2, a 9 year old game, says it's using 23GB on my 3090. That doesn't mean it actually uses that amount, it just simply grabs it because it's a dumb game.
I doubt any of the games you mention actually noticeably benefit from grabbing <8GB, they just allocate it. Allocated VRAM ≠ used VRAM

45 MH/s at 250W (5.55W per MH/s) is quite inefficient. A 3090 for reference can get 120MH/s at 330W (2.75W per MH/s), and that's far from the most efficient. 3060 Ti can get 60MH/s at 110W (1.83W per MH/s)

At this point, nvidia might as well not sell any GPUs at all and just use all the available stock to build their own crypto mining farm to make an even bigger profit.

Currently, eBay bids for 3060 Ti are US$1000-1400 for 3060 Ti ... there must be literally zero cards available. Expect 3060 to be $800 about one second after release on eBay.

eBay is flooded with "digital editions" which are just jpegs reverse scamming the bot buyers.

Damn. If I didn't need my RX 580 for my own system, I'd try to sell it and see how much I could get out of it lol

Have to give this one an "Lol." This "announcement" was nothing more than a PR dog and pony show. People like to blame "scalpers" for the price hikes, but any savvy person reading this article can plainly see they are nothing more than puppets, with both crypto miners and scalpers being casually manipulated by Nvidia to keep their brand in the spotlight.

I don't know why, but I keep getting parallel-vibes from this nonsense and the opening of the novel, Jennifer Government.
