The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti was previously expected to be announced in mid-April after various delays but has now been delayed another month to mid-May. This is the fifth delay for the new card after NVIDIA canned the RTX 3080 20 GB in December, postponed the launch of the RTX 3080 Ti 16 GB to January before downgrading the card to 12 GB memory and 10,240 CUDA cores which we expect will be the model announced in May. NVIDIA is also planning to announce the RTX 3070 Ti 8 GB in May so it is possible they might hold a special event for the unveiling of the two cards.

I am not surprise if this really happens. Nvidia have postponed the rumored release for months now since they can barely provide enough GA102 chips to satisfy the market. Pushing another SKU out of GA102 just means another product that will end up with poor availability. Based on my observations, there is barely any RTX 3080 drops. Perhaps that is due to the Samsung fab in Austin that is still struggling to start after being forced to shutdown in Feb.

Not surprising. 3090 is still selling like hotcakes and their competitor's best is on par with a 3070 in new games with RT.

RT is an awful thing to determine what card is better. Look at Nvidia's card, they have their dedicated - DEDICATED - RT Cores to handle the RT and the performance still takes a big hit. You have to then utilize their software (DLSS) to make the framerate acceptable again.

Basing your decision on RT as a way to say what card is better is a poor aspect to pick from in the current generation. Give both (soon to be all three if Intel does officially jump into the dedicated GPU world) 2 more generations before you can actually say one is better than the other for RT.

june seems more likely for any new cards releasing , atleast in any real sense.
when an item is 'released' & isnt available for the public to purchase until a later date 'TBD' ,it isnt a release, its an announcement.

if Nvidia was in charge, "release the kraken " wouldve meant ........

Austin fab does not produce GPU's. Only SSD controllers and some other stuff.

Well if the 3080 Ti is releasing now it would only cost gamers more than a 3090 anyways, and the extra profit is not going to Nvidia, better focus on selling 3090 now and stockpiling 3080Ti chips in the mean time.

On a serious question, what would be the actual difference between an 3090 and a 3080ti, considering that there is such a small performance gap between a 3090 and 3080 in the first place, but a ridiculous callous price gap??

Not over here they aint. They retail around $3400-3500. No average joe is in a rush to spend that kind of money on something that wont even put food on the table or pay their bills for the next 5 years.

Expected by whom? What delay?

This was all pure speculation by tech journalists, we haven't seen a single official anouncement or even a leak.

Sites just have to write about something exciting "right around the corner", because reporting the reality in which the PC users are in right now is just too depressing?

Memory capacity mostly. 12GB vs 24GB. In terms of performance the supposed 3080Ti would have only 1SM less (~240 cores etc) than 3090 and a bit less bandwith due to slower clocked G6X. But that can be easily negated with VRAM OC.

Personally i really dont care. 3080Ti has been rumored more times than Lock Ness monster or Roswell aliens and has supposedly gone trough like 5 different configurations. The 3080Ti rumors have also gone trough the same cycle: 3080Ti coming in 1-2 monts > different confugration than last time > 3080Ti postponed by 1-2 monts > crickets. Rinse and repeat. Sick of it.

there are large differences between the cards, but its important to remember the 3090 isnt a gaming card, so the differences wont show themselves while playing minecraft.
the 2.5x size memory buffer is a massive difference, its an enterprise sized memory buffer, which normally comes on very expensive Quadro's . id imagine the card offers other benefits over the 3080, but i couldnt say, as i dont utilize GPU's for anything outside normal use.

honestly i own every version of the RTX 3 series lineup, & none of them out perform the 2080ti in any meaningful way in the games i play.

I'll turn a blind eye to the 3080 Ti and just wait for RTX 4000 at this point, then I'll turn a blind eye to RTX 4000 which will be out of stock and wait for RTX 5000, then...

Thank for the good laugh :D

Don't measure something as hazardous as RT.
A 3070 is a bit above a 6700XT and 10-15% behind a simple RX 6800. A few games profits more from the 3070, but it's 1 out of 10.
And no, RTX 3090 don't sell like hot cakes, because they are the only card available with those RTX 3060 (which are a shame, they barely compete with a 2070).
Only 3060Ti/3070/3080 are out of stock, and all AMD cards.
