I doubt they're milking it. OEMs are unlikely to pay the same as you or me per CPU. Some have said that OEM deals usually mean very low margins for AMD/Intel. It's mostly for the market presence.

Don't they sell way more that way?, even if it's low margin, they sell so many that at the end, they earn more.

Yes they make up for it in volume but OEM's are smart and have more bargaining power than consumers since their orders are so large. The more they pay the less profit they make so its in the best interest to get the deal as low as possible.

5800X goes for €448 here in the Netherlands, in stock.

Had one before, was packed with WHEA crashes.

Not like it matters what MSRP AMD set anyway, since there is little stock available, so it would have been scalped anyway.

And I agree. These non-X CPUs are kind of meh imo, but quite a lot of people (myself included) are excited about the new Zen 3 APUs. Sadly it won't happen just yet.

lol, did they force you to spend money on their product?
its nothing you "need" to make it to the next day (older hw works just fine for the basics like email/browsing/office etc.
what "groceries/food" you buy at least twice a month, costs the same as 10y ago?
right.




funny how some act like companies put them in a van, and told them to bend over, without offering lube
i buy the stuff i like, if i have the budget for it (and save up if needed).
doesnt mean im gonna whine about the fact that companies want to make money with their product.

IDK why anyone would be surprised at this anyway, AMD has a history of jacking up prices when they have the lead, see also the athlon FX-57 and athlon FX-52. Only reason we havent seen ATi/AMD do that with GPUs is because they've never held onto the lead for a signifcant time like nvidia has.

Kinda par the course when you have a superior product. All companies do this and considering all of these are publicly traded companies if money was left on the table they would have to answer to their shareholders.

I think it's connected with shortage of... everything. AMD providing cheaper yet still powerul non X CPUs to OEMs will make it easier to sell prebuilds these days, even to enthuasiast. These non X CPUs paired with hardly to find unscalped GPUs will be a better deal, to some. DIY market is down the toilet at the moment.
