Don’t tempt turbogear too much. He’s desperate to improve his 94th global ranking in Fire Strike Ultra.View attachment 199613
No no not anymore. :D

It is tempting as the 6900XTU has lot of potential but I put a target for maximum power of 384W and 384A TDC and will tune whatever performance I can squeeze out of the card in that target. :p

If you give this monster more power it can go higher in performance but not worth it as power consumption is too high then.
Let's see where I end up in the global chart after tuning.

At the moment it is set to 2750MHz@1175mV at 384W and 320A TDC. I could not find any stable undervolt than 1175mV at this frequency. It can be set 2850MHz at higher voltage but does not bring any benefits at 384W as it needs higher power to give more performance.

anybody else very disappointed with the 6900XT/6800XT Nitro +?
The cooler is absolute garbage and barely on par with the reference card.
and the heatsink is basically made for a 5700XT. i wish i could swap my card out for a different one (my 319 merc black is a strix vs. asus dual fan compared to the nitro +)

don't know about the other Nitro+ cards, but I'm really happy with my Nitro+ 6700XT cooler performance. Up to 2.9 GHz and stays under 70'c

And your first 6800XT could do 2700mhz at 998mv ..... :p At least you have a very good chip in this 6900XT :)

When I remember that 6800XT card I can start crying.
I never got anything as good as that. Pity that it died.

But positive side is that at 2700MHz real game frequency this 6900XTU is much faster. :D
The other two 6900XT that I had did not even run at 2620MHz with 384W and 384A TDC.

6900XT are not as energy efficient as good 6800XT, but you know my second 6800XT Red Devil was real disappointing with only 2400MHz and did not undervolt at all even at that frequency.

Noticed that after last driver my power consumption decreased, fan speed too a bit and gpu utilization is now within 94-99 range, while it used to be in 97-99 before. Also, rolled back to 21.4.1 after couple DDUs and the behavior persists. Despite all the settings are same I used to have. Find it weird. 21.5.1 for whatever reason seems to have lower performance in hitman 3 (reproducible in benchmarks). Guess I’ll be waiting for next version instead.

21.3.1 is still the best driver performance wise, for me the difference between 21.3.1. and 21.4.1 is minimal, but still I think 21.3.1 is a tiny bit better performing. I am very very curios if the next big one brings FSR as its rumored to come out in June :)

I've been experiencing issues with performance in benchmarks and games since the early Feb driver release. I only updated recently as the latest driver supposedly gives Resident Evil 8 a nice performance boost on the 6800XT's, but once completed I may switch back to that driver release as it seemed to be provide slightly higher clocks and better overall performance.

Cant say I am an expert on that model, but what you are describing sound like either your case is badly ventilated, which would make hot air get recirculated and that would drastically regress the cooling performance (from what I read above, that's not the case), or some issue with the mounting of the cooler. That cards cooler should be good enough to allow it to OC easily without turning it into an oven, so my guess is the cooler is not ideally mounted, hence at higher wattage it craps out basically. With the risk of voiding warranty, you could try to screw the 4 main screws tighter, or add some washers, but if your card has warranty seals, those would be broken during that process, so up to you how you want to handle it. In my opinion, 100-200 extra mhz is not that big of performance jump to merit all the hassle :)
I had someone reapplying thermal paste and I used the grizzly expensive one. Now junction is up to 15-20 degrees Celsius lower. The guy who helped me told me the screwS on the cooler weren't tight enough and that it was too much thermal paste ALL AROUND and low quality. I tried a timespy and I scored 20700 with mpt up to 375 w, 2555-2655, 2138 memory... Now clocks sit comfortably mid 2650s with max 90 degrees junction. AMAZING!

I noticed that with the last 2 drivers the GPU is sucking less voltage, whereas until 21.3.1 it used to apply a bit more voltage, with ones after 21.3.1 the driver tries to apply less voltage. The difference between 21.3.1 and 21.3.4 is minor in performance, with 21.3.1 maybe having 1% better perf in some rare situations. If I where to make a joke, with 21.3.1 they increased performance to much and then gradually toned it down, to much perf at once wont leave anything for future drivers

Ha, and I’ve been bombarded on Reddit with messages about how great amd rivers are since vega days and everything is perfect in all games despite known issues with CryEngine and other stuff like conflict with Afterburner, Vulkan fps drops and radeon software crapping out while browsing tabs in it.

So far, I've used ATi/AMD cards since the 9700 Pro, running both CF and SLi systems along the way. Like nVidia drivers, I can't say anything negative about their driver, other than some not performing well in newer or just released games (though recent experience with AMD driver with newer games have been just fine). Only issue I had was when I'd just received my RX 6900 XT, Metro Exodus (not the PC EE version) would CTD or crash hard with RT enabled, without RT, it ran fine. That was fixed with a later driver release, and thus far, my card has had no issue with games.....no weird clockspeed, no memory stuck at full speed while on desktop, etc.

No driver is perfect, whenever you hear someone say AMD has a perfect driver, or Nvidia has a perfect driver, you should know you are talking to a FANBOY :D
What I can say is that the latest AMD drivers are better than they used to be 1 year ago, less things causing issues, very very few in fact for me.

Well, aside from the fact that I am unimpressed with EK products (packaging mostly, or lack of), I am thrilled with the performance of the block. My junction was hitting 110C playing RDR2 in like 10 minutes. Playing for a quick 15 minutes after the block? Didn't see junction over 60C. Damn son.

To add, I don't even have the fourth fan on the 560mm. Even better, I can still add 1120mm of radiator if I wanted too. Although I think 560mm will be enough forever.

Your graphics score seems to be on the low side for an overclocked 6900 XT. I think you can push the core clocks higher, maybe around 2,650 to 2,750. Are you on air?

Yup, a lot of people disregard custom water cooling, but if you want lowest temps and reasonably silent operation, there is no air cooling that can beat a even decent custom loop, let alone the more sophisticated ones that are put together by people who know how to build an efficient loop :)

I did not think my 6800XT could be cooled so well by custom loop, until I put the block on and put LM on the chip, for a GPU built with 7nm and running way out of its spec with a lot of extra power going through it, to basically never reach 60c on the hotspot is a small miracle :D

I have a XSPC Raystorm Pro on my 3900XT, EK Quantum Plexi/Copper, XSPC AX560MM, and an XSPC Res/Pump D5. Since EK fudged me on the screws for the backplate and it is already mounted, I may leave the plate off. I have a fan blasting right up the back of the board so I am not sure if the plate is even advantages. My card is vertical so I am not worried about leakage or flex.

I was also pleasantly surprised after putting mine under water. My hotspot temp used to hit 114 degrees Celsius when running Port Royal with the stock air cooler. Now it mostly stays in the 60s.

Your graphics score seems to be on the low side for an overclocked 6900 XT. I think you can push the core clocks higher, maybe around 2,650 to 2,750. Are you on air?
I am on air, yes. I cannot go any higher for timespy, else it crashes. What do you mean it's on the low side? I haven't seen many rx 6900 xt posting 21k scores in Timespy on air...

In games I can push to 2625-2725, which results in 2,66-2.67 ghz constant clock speeds. But that's with 325-350W in mpt, which makes my card suck up to 375W. I am afraid to go any higher on voltage, although I have a solid super flower 1000W psu...

But anyway for daily use I undervolt to 1050 mv, 2420-2520, 2138 memory. Junction temp doesn't even go past 80 degrees, while edge temp is low 60s with fan curve to 45%.

Speaking of RDR2, do you guys have weird fps slowdowns with low gou usage in towns in specific places on vulkan? I don’t have them with DX12 at all, but DX12 crashes if afterburner is running, unlike vulkan.

I tried to play the game, 20 hours in, bored me to tears, and with the 6000 series DX12 should be used, Vulkan was giving me strong frame fluctuation, DX12 was better performing overall and smooth as butter with very constant framerates.

Vulkan was better on my Vega, DX12 is WAAAAAAAAYYY better on my 6900XT.
