GIGABYTE Gives Public Apology for "Made in China" Mocking After Company Shares Plummet by $550 Million

I'd have to say Giga showed its e-peen too soon.

it's just sanctions. capitalistic regime in China just mirrors western capitalistic regimes actions. nothing new.

Gigabyte should put their money where their mouth is first. Move ALL production out of china and to some other country before boasting about others using the chinese for labor.

I mean that's the entire point of social credit, the government can use it to cancel any citizens that cross them. Cancel them in both the literal and figurative sense.
Yeah doubt the CCP needs a "social credit" score to do that, you cross them at your own peril as even probably Jack Ma found out towards the end of last year!

I have not bought gigabyte products maybe for over 2 decades. But I have heard they moved high cost product factory to Taiwan last year. Since then they became my first go and check manufacturer. I rather pay premium for a product that is not made in a nation we are not allowed to freely name. What I want is manufacturers publishing wherr their product is made at, before purchasing for all of us to see.
They've always had a factory outside Taoyuan where they've made most of their high-end boards, as well as some graphics card SKUs.

I'm not sure what's more amusing to me in this story, the fact that someone at Gigabyte thought the blog post was a good idea, or the usual thin-skinned wumao whining

"Growing national pride" is certainly an interesting way to describe "need to grow a pair of fucking balls" lol

Who knew that of all things cancel culture would be the one to be backed by the CCP?
The Chinese glass hearts are once again showing.

We would all be well to remember the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. My own country Australia, has an appalling human rights record (black deaths in custody, Manus Island Detention Centre, the list is long). The Western World is quick to point the finger to China about its treatment of Muslims. This ignores the widespread and unjustified vilification of people of the Islamic faith by Western nations. I say before getting all indiginant about another country's alleged human rights abuse, get your own house in order.

That's very subjective.
My country Australia currently has a great human rights record, IMO.
Bleeding hearts on the other hand may be led to believe otherwise.

Dude, stop spread PRC propaganda. This is EXACTLY how the PRC is justifying what they're doing. Oh look, the white man did this in the past, so we have the right to do it as well and no-one can tell us we're wrong.

No it doesn't, and opinions are like anuses, everyone has one. However facts are facts. BTW I am white and privileged. This is NOT CCP propaganda.

No the thing is they're still doing it in the present & China has also been doing it since at least their independence(?) post 1950. The war in Afghanistan isn't over & whatever happened over there or Iraq, let alone the torture, isn't some ancient history!

The point being all nation states have blood on their hands, they are born out of literally bloody battles over decades if not centuries! What are we doing it about now though ~ F nothing? It's all about the monies these days, not land & slave labor is just as much if not more of an issue than anything in the past. Where do you think the cheapest parts that go into your phone or PC are sourced from?
You want lasting piece ~ try to sort out the current system & maybe we can get there in the next century or so!

"I stay woke"

"I stay woke"
The sad part about "woke folk" is they think what they know is new, when everyone else already knew it.

All Chinese companies are in business to serve the CCP.
I applaud GB's move to Taiwan. More companies should follow their lead.
You know why Gigabyte moved most of it manufacturing to Taiwan? So they could avoid US tariffs enforced on products manufactured in China.

@jsteinhauer added the "wolk" bit. The older you get the more you understand how much there is to know, and how little you did in the past. If this really a democracy, then I vote for no war with China.

For the Hawks who hope to benefit from war, I say Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD). I would also remind them that scramjet technology has made many military technologies obsolete.

Hey, Taiwan area has always been a concrete part of China. Don't get it wrong... So called "Taiwanese" which is used in the news report is so wrong an expression.
Taiwan is a country, so please keep your PRC propaganda to yourself, Mr wolf warrior.
The island has NEVER been ruled by the PRC.

Again, they've always had a large factory in Taiwan where they've been making motherboards and graphics cards.

Nah, I can't argue with you on that. There's nothing I should say here

they must have thought gigabyte tw was not china, so as an external party outside china could then be insulting china.
otherwise it is simply a case that china company complains about china bad stuff, which should never be addressed as political problems.

fun fact, the current gigabyte psu blowing up issue, those are MIC.
as a china company all chinese think of, gigabyte isn't that politically right to expose china problem.

how about the famous pcie connectors problem on rtx 3080 3090?
i have been saying this is gigabyte's fault. now should I redirect to say it is a chinese company problem although it is not oem but made by gigabyte owned factocy?

Gigabytes comment is true, but not the best thing to say when you're at the brink of war with China, and like to make profit.

The Chinese response is completely in line with the party, and is how they always respond, just look at Australia, and the fun they are having with China, just because they dared to speak the truth.

Why the author of this was surprised by this fact scares me a little.

The almost god-like power of a totalitarian regime... GIGABYTE severely underestimate the control of all media / websites in China.

See what happened to the poor H&M weeks ago...

As a conclusion, to put all your eggs in one basket is not healthy. The more you diversify your manufacturing facilities the better you are off, quicker you can act to "unforseen" circumstances.

Haha OK you got your 15 minutes Gibabyte now bend the knee as the rest of companies and organizations that want to do business in China. As you can see talk the talk is quite easy but walk the walk is another story.

the "low-cost, low-quality way".

hahahaha this is golden coming from a company that's in the midst of a "powergate" due to their EXPLODING power supplies that they forcibly bundle with their Ampere GPUs (gamersnexus video coming), just search for it....

It's been ruled but many including China, Japan and the Portuguese.

And Wikipedia says this.
Taiwan, officially the Republic of China, is a country in East Asia.
Neighbouring countries include the People's Republic of China to the northwest, Japan to the northeast, and the Philippines to the south.

To me it's just an island off the coast of China -_-
Coudn't give a fig who lays claim to it as long as my hardware is on the ship out.

No it has not. None of those nations ever ruled the entire island. The Japanese came the closest, but never conquered some parts of the island thanks the local tribes.
And please, don't try to teach me about the nation I live in. I might not be Taiwanese, but I've spent a large chunk of my life here.
The PRC has a matter of fact, never set foot in Taiwan.
The only reason the KMT succeeded in landing here was because the Japanese had left the island without any means of defending itself and the local government at the time didn't have a single ally, as the US forgot about Taiwan, until a certain dictator needed somewhere to flee from the communists.

I wonder what happened to the Gigabyte employee that made the insulting remark about Chinese Manufacturing quality? They not only costed the investors a huge drop in market share but probably cost the company a good bit of future revenue and profits.
