AMD is planning two new graphics chips, the RV635 and RV620, upgrades of its entry-level and mid-range ATI Radeon HD 2000 series products. The RV635 and RV620 are upgrade versions of the Radeon HD 2400 (R630) and 2600 (R610). The new chips will adopt a 55nm process, compared to 65nm of the previous chips, and will have core frequencies increased to 800MHz. The chips will be manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). In addition, the new video cards will also support DirectX 10.1, Shader Model 4.1 and PCI Express 2.0, while output will be upgraded to include Display Port. AMD schedules to provide EVT (engineering validation test) samples of the RV635 and RV620 chips in October and will launch in January next year. RV635 and RV620 will each come in XT and Pro versions. Although the official market names are not yet set, the cards are likely to be named Radeon HD 2650 and 2500.

Lets hope they make the HD2650 have 8 ROPs and 240 Shaders :laugh::laugh:

(X1650XT had 8ROPs and 24 Shaders, X1600XT had 4 ROPs and 12 shaders, HD2600XT has 4 ROPs and 120 Shaders, see the connections folks? Its a mindgame.)

lets hope they have 256bit mem busses.

Well, at least the 2650. I don't see much point in a 256bit memory bus on the 2500.

yep,at least the 2650,with pci-e2,dx10.1 and shader 4.1,it would be pointless without a 256bit bus.it would be a right dog.

No offence to the anyone who has a 24/2600 already, but I hope the x50 variants bring a little bit more zazz into the equation. I hope partners will bridge these to AGP as well if they don't bring a 2900 to AGP (which I doubt).

As usual, I'm not impressed with ATI's mid-range offerings. The ONLY mid-range offering I liked from them in the past 5 years has been the x1650XT, before that that hadn't had a good mid-range card since the 9500Pro.

Well 9500pro was 9700pro with a mod, so it was basically a high-end card :) No idea why they don't let us buy a 2900xt with midrange price anymore :p Then came the 9600 series fiasco, where 9500 was much faster, even if it was supposed to be last gen. There just weren't any 9500 available and had to get a 9600pro :/ Wonder why no-one did sell them(9500) :)

The x1650XT is a very similar situation, it is just a high end core slapped on a 128-bit card with a set of pipelines disabled. It seems whenever ATI actually tried to make a real mid-range card they fail.

The x1950Pro isn't a mid-range card, it is a high end card.

This is becoming a very predictable pattern from ati, i wonder if they will also be rendered pointless by a cut down model of the high end card again for around the same price (x800gt's cost less/same on release than the x700, and the 1950 pro was a mere couple of £$ more than an x1650xt)

actually newtekie1 it was infact released as a midrange never was it considered highend the highend was the XT version which was released 1st.. They designed the Pro off of the specs for the XT with the full intencion of decreasing some performance and selling it as midrange for cheapskates like me who would not pay for the best model available at the time

It was still part of the high-end market, which is why it was part of the x1950 class, ATI's mid-range for that generation was the x1600/1650. If it was a mid-range card it would have been in the x16x0 class, not the x1950 class.

You people need to learn that "Not the absolute best" doesn't mean "Mid-range".
