ASUS & Noctua Reportedly Developing RTX 3070 Graphics Card

Everyone always moans about noctuas brown, but the simple fact is the brown dye along with their Sterrox liquid-crystal polymer makes for the best combination in the blades, dyes do effect polymers, hence why their other colours are not as good.

You implied that the render came from Noctua or Asus which it clearly didn't, so yeah it kinda does.

I like the idea though, if you are going to make a premium GPU this is a good way to differentiate in a way that should actually make a difference. There is no way in hell Asus is going to make a brown graphics card though (you heard it hear first).
 
All the more reason I am confused if this is an actual thing. The EK collab of course makes sense since ASUS isn't making it's own blocks that I know of, but this is a weird thing unless it's marketed more by Noctua than ASUS.
I'll use an analogy because I'm not great at explaining my thought process: Every comic book hero needs a "shtick" - an act or a character trait for which he(or she) is known and with which he's associated with. Asus's "shtick" is well engineered graphics cards, Noctua's is good, silent CPU cooling. Thanks to this collaboration they each get a second "shtick", Asus will now have "well engineered graphics cards" and "well cooled graphics cards" and Noctua will add "good GPU cooling" to "good CPU cooling".
Usually even enthusiasts don't give much thought to stock GPU cooling. When you throw in a known and respected name line Noctua, more people will take notice. As someone who "deshrouds" and straps quiet fans - more often than not made by Noctua - to GPUs, I'd certainly weight stock cooling made by them as a plus when making a purchasing decision.
 
The problem with cooling GPUs isn't really down to the quality of the fans or heatsink - sure it helps to have higher quality for both - but rather the fact that the graphics card itself is a solid wall of PCB that blocks airflow.

The short-PCB, extended flow-through heatsink designs are the clear winners here; The best way to get air flowing over heatsink fins is to not block the exit and based on those renders, there's almost nowhere for the air to exhaust - The finest fans and heatpipes in the world won't do any good if the air can't flow over them.

This is just a concept render, I know, but the lack of exhaust air clearance even at the concept stage is absolutely unforgivable for a company that prides themselves on airflow and cooling. They KNOW that if intake area is greater than exhaust area there will be flow restrictions. This graphical render job was clearly given to some intern who doesn't know what they're doing. This 2mm gap is where the air is supposed to vent out of the heatsink, apparently. See XFX THICC II as an abject failure of design despite being far less severe than this joke of a design.

Seeing how some Asus AIO’s use Noctua fans, I can certainly see this happening. I don’t think they’ll go with beige/brown though. Probably the usual gunmetal/black aesthetic Asus typically does. Just a guess though.

ASUS replied to an email inquiry about the product saying they were unable to comment but that they would hopefully be able to announce something soon which lends considerable weight to these rumors. We have seen several renders and mods over the years of Noctua themed graphics cards one of which is included below in absence of any pictures or drawings of this card.
 
They won my money at the word Noctua! Seriously, would be more premium then their strix cards. They should have just waited for next gen with noctuas.
 
Thinking about it, their Ryujin cooler ships with Noctua iPPC’s... I wonder if this’ll just be an Asetek AIO attached to the card with some nice fans?

I don’t think Noctua would attach it’s name to a GPU heatsink unless they spent 6 years developing it, but if the SKU is correct then I’m wrong... Maybe just some 90mm fans attached? Maybe Noctua’s lowering the bar a little? What’s going on here? What innovation is on the table here when almost every GPU ships with a version of the Accelero?

SMH, I did read it and I still doubt. no need to start baiting.
 
If this goes ahead, we'll be one step closer to having REFERENCE cards with coolers having STANDARD 92mm fans that can be swapped by other fans of the user's liking: if the user wasn't some RGB fans, Noctua fans, other fans, he / she simply has to swap the original fan for the ones he / she chooses, without having to purchase a 3rd party cooler to do it.

Enough with proprietary "weird standard" fans in GPU coolers: give us users the possibility to choose the fans we want by using CURRENT STANDARD 92mm fans.

And before someone says "but that increases the required mobo slots because the cards become too thick", that is ALREADY THE CASE with many of current gen GPUs.

ya know the ryujin ii uses noctua 2k ippc fans. not sure asus has anything w/static pressure like that for rads.
 
Stealing designs. But damn do those renders look sexy, if I could afford I would.

 
That is fugly. I'm sure that the performance will be good though.

If they used the new black look from Noctua, then it would look rather better, but still not great.

This is the first time in my life that I've heard someone suggest that adding a shit brown color to something helps it's performance.

Its called Polymer Chemistry, and Noctua is very picky when it comes to selecting the mixtures that go into fabrication. They could probably make their fans a lot more different colors, but then the price for their fans is going to jump up quite a bit.

Of course it is. And of course it means they start out designing everything in beige/brown. That doesn't make changing the color any easier, as they'll have to re-engineer the polymer mixture for both color saturation and the desired physical properties for every color produced. And we know from Noctua's previous comments on Chromax black A12x25s that they wouldn't be satisfied with something with a very uneven black color, a standard that likely applies no matter what color they're making.
