Windows 11 Releases October 5th, Free Upgrade from Windows 10

Previously thought to be delayed to 2022, the free upgrade to Windows 11 from Windows 10 will now begin from October 5, 2021. Microsoft announced that from this day, Windows 10 PCs should receive the free upgrade to Windows 11. Desktops and notebooks with pre-installed Windows 11 will also be available from this day. Microsoft however put out this disclaimer: "The Windows 11 upgrade will start to be delivered to qualifying devices beginning on October 5, 2021 into 2022. Timing varies by device." Windows 11 introduces an overhaul to the user interface, with more of Modern UI replacing Win32. To gamers and PC enthusiasts, Windows 11 offers DirectX 12 Ultimate, DirectStorage, and Audio HDR, as well as optimization for the next breed of hybrid-core processors, such as the 12th Gen Intel "Alder Lake."

This sort of news is pointless because what Microsoft say and what Microsoft do are two very different things.

I can still use Windows7 and Windows8 keys to install Windows 10 Pro, years after the "free upgrade" period ended. It seems like if you have a COA with a key you are good for any version of Windows, period.

I agree.

I got on Vista about a year after it launched. No issues. I thought it worked great. Unlike folks that first jumped on the wagon with Vista....many of those people said Vista was awful.

Upgrade immediately, stability is for cowards. If my PC is always working properly I'd have nothing to tinker with.

Never had any issues with vista (64 bit) and I liked the transparent windows effect and ofcourse windows dream scene!!

ive been running 11 a month or so, & ive not encountered a single issue yet.
the first time i installed it when it was first available to insiders, it was bad, but not anymore.
ill be moving my kids PC's to it soon since its free if i do

Generalizations is always bad. It doesn't reflect the objective truth. In the cases of Vista and 10's early days the truth is that many people had many issues with these OS. Vista was so baf that Microsoft brought it down months later.

I ran Vista on release, ran Windows 7 on release, ran Windows 10 on release. I didnt have issues. Yes, Vista was a resource hog, but that was what vLite was for. Ill run Windows 11 on release too. Ill make an image of my Win10 install so that way if there are any major hiccups, i can revert pretty easily.

Purchased my HP Pro x2 612 G2 brand new about two years ago...the processor is not supported.



It's the only device running Windows in the house. If I could find a suitable linux distribution to run on a tablet....It would be running something else, but I can't and believe me I have searched hi & low(Zorin and Feren OS are close). It's also quite hard to divine exactly what Microsoft is saying because they seem conflicted as to what they want to do...at least that is my interpretation after reading numerous articles from PC World. At any rate, if it ends up that my tablet pc isn't "officially" supported by Windows 11, I'll toss it on ebay and be done with this nonsense.

I'd call Microsoft a drama queen...but in truth, they give me the creeps.

From my perspective...Windows 11 is one step further in to a dystopian nightmare. When in truth...the company should have been broken up years ago. Same with Amazon, Google, Apple, Twitter, Facebook, and Walmart.

Walmart? They single-handedly destroyed just about every small town in America....Amazon is wiping up the residue.

Residue? Just take a trip down route 66...and see the carnage.

If the beta is any indication of what the final will be like, that's not going to be an issue. 22k.168 is bug/glitch free as far as I can tell, and I've been running it through it's paces.

It's not the programmers, they are doing their job and it shows. It's the nitwit, tree-swinging, crap-flingers making the decisions about the limitations/requirements.

Nope, I love that aspect of Windows 11! It's a refreshing experience with a lot of feature updates and improvements that make it a very compelling upgrade. What's holding it back are those dumbass UEFI/TPM/SecureBoot requirements, which are COMPELETLY artificial as Windows 11 installs and runs fine even on old Core2Duo based PCs(personally tested this), after installer workarounds employed of course. In that area, microsoft is flat out lying about things.
