ASUS Z690 Motherboards Listed by Canadian Retailer

Intel is set to launch their 12th Generation Alder Lake desktop processors on November 4th alongside the new Z690 chipset supporting DDR5 and PCIe 5.0. We have recently seen the first of these new Z690 motherboards from ASUS being listed for sale by PC Canada. The listings include TUF, ROG Maximus, ROG Strix, and Prime motherboards but we don't see any mention of Apex or Extreme boards so they may not be available at launch. The models all appear to retail for less than their Z590 counterparts except for some of the Prime series models which will come as a pleasant surprise to many. We are also aware that the VRM design for these boards will receive various upgrades according to a recent report from @Komachi. The Z690 Hero is set to feature a 20+1 phase design with 90 A Power Stages while the lower-end boards will get a 14+1 design.

No, as that standard isn't being enforced by Intel, since the motherboard makers said they're not really interested.
 
Really puts into perspective how Z590 boards had a price hike over Z490 - these Z690 seem high but not actually much of an increase at all over last gen.

Z590 TUF is about $325-350CAD currently. I got my B550 Unify-X for $350, and it's $315 right now. There's no question as to which is the significantly higher-end board.......considering only the Hero on this list is even remotely comparable and it's double the price. Current Z590 Hero is $630 so there is a substantial difference there, but no idea if the Z690 board will also be more feature-packed in an attempt to move the board up into a higher end segment.

So with Z690 TUF at $370 I can't say I'm surprised. PC-Canada seems like one of those online storefronts that I would use to try pricematching at Memory Express, but never actually trust enough to buy from them :D PC-Canada usually has middling to high prices compared to other retailers, they are stubbornly sticking the backordered 5600G at $350 despite every other retailer coming down, some as low as $310.
 
Prime Z690-A at 303 USD is better than expected, although these are preliminary prices. The point to keep (if true) is the almost negligible 10-11 USD difference between DDR4 and DDR5 boards.

Well, it's not as if there's going to be any major cost difference to the boards makers outside of slightly different power regulation and the obvious change of the DIMM holders.

Theoretically there should be almost no difference, I'm mostly concerned about market "regulation".
 
with the Intel CEO saying alder lake is basically going to leave AMD in the dust, I am very much interested in seeing benchmarks in November... going to be interesting indeed. and then to see if Lisa Su counters. AMD may have already peaked, they always said Intel would catch back up and surpass them, but I don't think they were expecting it to be this fast... lol

it's going to be a giant disappointing 5% the first few years lol, that's my guess anyway.
 
Asus why no upper-mid range Hero, only ballin MAX HERO at a price point that is over priced for a consumer segment board
