MSI is committed to mitigating the environmental impacts of its business activities through green production and supply chain management. We have invested actively into improving energy consumption, waste reduction and chemical substance control in response to climate change risk.

For better energy saving, carbon reduction and to protect trees, MSI motherboards will remove the unnecessary paper attachments in the future, which includes Reward Program, Shout Out Flyer, Product Catalog and User Manual. In spite of the removal of these paper appendices, users can find all the information in digital format, no matter via MSI website, QR code on color box, or digital manual.

glad to see this, more industries and products need to start doing this, and instead just have a little link printed on the outside of the product bought stating "go to this link to get all the information about this product" or something like that

If they are serious about "going green" they would also ship their products in plain unlaminated boxes, which would make recycling a lot easier.

But I guess that would be too much to ask in our product placement world.

that would also be in fact way more well useful than dropping the already-thin manuals (they're like what, 12 pages these days?) as it's just plain paper with some black ink, which is fairly recyclable by today's standards, unlike all those over-laminated and over-printed boxes

I read the title and thought the opposite for some reason. That they'd start doing paper-based product packaging or something. Motherboard, GPU in paper bags instead of plastic antistatic ones. Same for accessories. Paper-based dampener instead of plastic foam etc.
This looks to be cost cutting branded as green initiative. Though I won't complain since I've never took out the paper manual in the years owning MSI motherboard. Downloaded it off their site, used it then delete.

Engraving, that would be nice, but alas, I am scared they will add a $1000 DLC premium, as it's a new feature. lol

What about the useless driver CD's that most people no longer have readers for and contain outdated drivers when a customer recieves it?
Also the annoying M.2 screws (each one in it's own plastic bag). Move to toolless M.2 please.

To assemble your computer, first read the manual that you can find online... with a computer that you haven't assembled yet... until we consider your motherboard obsolete and delete all related files from our servers.

Thank you, MSi. Very useful indeed.

I do, but why should one assume that everybody does? Even then, why should one assume that everybody has a QR reader app and knows how to use it?

Relax. It was more of a joke poking fun at the Blizzard Diablo Immortal announcement where the presenters asked audience if they did not have phones.
Ah! I didn't see that announcement. :ohwell:

I sure hope they will at least include a single sheet of paper with system panel connectors. It's the only thing which is crucial as hell.

I would say it's pretty safe (read: like a government nuclear war bunker complex) to assume that a person's first mode of access to the internet isn't going to be a self-built PC in the year 2022 and beyond. Heck, most likely their TV can access that manual if they really need it.
If they are serious about "going green" they would also ship their products in plain unlaminated boxes, which would make recycling a lot easier.

Very much this. Heck, if they wanted the best of both worlds to they could even use plain boxes with removable, recyclable printed coatings or sleeves - but that would cost more than what they're currently doing, of course. Still, I guess this will save a few tons of paper a year, so it's something. Not much to write home about, but something.

Greenwashing at its finest:

"We stopped putting our extra marketing material in the box because everyone gets it from the internet now"
"We're green now, instead burning the coal on datacenters to provide you said marketing... and guess what, we even saved money on print"

I don't know if you missed the last two years' worth of pandemic, but the QR code is pretty common now. Globally
And this is motherboards. Granny won't be buying these.

CD/DVD is gone my MSI and replaced with usbstick. The m.2 screws are not gone for MSI. Asus has the toolless plastic pin for m.2.
New for me: screwdrivers are included. Most of the ppl dont have any screwdrivers or very old ones. No joke.

Next year you will only get mainboard and wifi antenna. The price will rise about 10-30% :D (but you can save 5 bucks on the no-wifi-edition) :D

Not necessarily, but the image of hosting things online being "greener" than paper is wildly misleading. Things are a lot more complicated than that, and it's entirely possible for digital distribution to be more environmentally harmful than physical print.
