GIGABYTE over the last week posted UEFI firmware updates for its Socket AM4 motherboards that add support for the upcoming AMD Ryzen 5800X3D processor. Released for motherboards across its AMD 400-series and 500-series lineups; the updates pack AGESA ComboPI V2 1.2.0.6 Patch-b microcode. Another key feature of these updates are that they re-introduce the "Max CPU Boost Clock Override" toggle, which appears when a Ryzen 5000 "Vermeer" processor is installed.

The Ryzen 7 5800X3D is an 8-core/16-thread processor based on the "Zen 3" microarchitecture, and packs the AMD 3D Vertical Cache (3DV Cache) technology, featuring 100 MB of Total Cache (AMD jargon for the sum of all L2 + L3 cache). The company claims gaming performance on par with the Core i9-12900K "Alder Lake" processor. The re-introduction of the Boost Frequency overrides signal that the company wants enthusiasts to go to town with overclocking, making this a possible response to the i9-12900KS gaming performance, at a lower price-point.

I know I'm not gonna be able to afford it, but that 5800X3D is looking REALLY attractive of an upgrade over my 3600.

So in the final F36 BIOS with AGESA 1.2.0.5 removed Max Boost Clock Override per AMD request and now they add it back in so that AMD doesn't look bad when fighting Intel's new offerings? Ok.

My ASUS X570 motherboard also has the V2 1.2.0.6 Patch-b microcode added a few days ago. Now waiting for the release of the new 3D CPU which should be soon.

I hope the new CPU will boot on older BIOS motherboard, I have one B550 Mortar and awaiting this CPU. It would be pain plugging out my CPU just to update BIOS.

No I don't think it will boot on your BIOs which is dated from last December. Once a new BIOs is available just update it with the old CPU installed.

I have a bad feeling too. I had to do it with the B450ies. It as brand new setup, boxed I haven't looked even the bios revision sticker, I don't know even if it has one.

Mortar has BIOS flashback, I am saved.

It is fairly obvious that just about every Ryzen enthusiast would like to own the X3D chip as a last hurrah for the AM4 platform. I expect them to be in short supply and probably sell at or above 5950X pricing on the street. Especially where I live.

Looks like F15a has been put out already 12 days ago. I'll update later, I just updated the BIOS last month and it sucks to do it this often.

Pricing looks to be 5 to 20% higher on the Epyc side.

I don’t think the desktop chip will exceed those markup percentages.

Unless that price bump goes in line with performance I might be better off buying regular 5000 series on sale.

Nothing wrong with the 5000 series as is. They're already really good chips and will serve for a decade+ in their current form. Especially if you nab a ryzen 9.

While mroe cache is good I dont know if the benefits are rreally going to be all they are hyped up to be.

Benefits will depend on user need, so what is exactly being hyped here? AKA: What is it you need it to do?

I'm in the same boat as you. I will be waiting for Zen4 to come for possibly lowing the price somewhat. Otherwise, I plan 5800X3D to be my last upgrade raplacing 2700x on that MB.

I've installed the new bios on my aorus master. Yes, there's a max boost override setting. I'm extremely unsure it does anything but let you select a number. Previously my best two cores hit 5.2g, now they are doing 5.025.

Was never going to get the 5800X3D, but finally prices dropped a lot on 5800X in Australia, so I upgraded last week. Thery were $750 when I built my new PC in March 2021, but got it for $480. I can sell my 3700X probably for $400.

If you had waited a little longer you might have picked up the newest iteration. AMD's swan song on AM4. I'm keen to see how this thing performs but ultimately, for me, I will wait for Raptor Lake or Raphael later in the year. Not much leaked about the latter so I'm expecting something special.

You have no idea what you are talking about I see.

I wonder what would be the price for it. I got my 5800x and it's been great. Cant complain to be honest. I see the prices are going down now. Would the new 5800x3d be lower in price or comparable?
Not to mention, i need to see what it can do. Maybe there will be no point for upgrading anyway.

Im with you guys the 5800X3D is most likely what I will upgrade to as well from my 2700X by the end of the yr or early next yr, then later after that a 5950X.....maybe, but I was planning to get 10yrs out of this platform before I upgraded to a whole new System.

I remember seeing the 5800X for $450 a few times on Amazon AUS over the past several months which was surprising to see compared to other places that would of had it over $600

I got my 2700X replaced with 5800X. I could pull the trigger on the 5800X3D if I find out the uplift from 5800X is somewhat meaningful and the price is not ridiculous.
