LG Launches Curved 49-inch 5120x1440 Display with 144 Hz Refresh Rate

For those looking for a more sizable display, LG has just released the 49WQ95C-W, which is a curved 49-inch dual QHD Nano IPS based monitor with a 144 Hz refresh rate. It's part of LG's UltraWide series of monitors rather than its UltraGear series, but it should still be suitable for gaming, even though that isn't its primary target market. There's support for FreeSync Premium Pro and the display is also G-Sync compatible, although LG doesn't provide a refresh rate range, only the upper refresh rate of 144 Hz. The response time is 5 ms GtG. LG has also thrown in some of its more gamer focused features such as dynamic action sync which reduces input lag, black stabilizer and a crosshair function.

The 32:9 panel has a colour gamut that meets 98 percent of the DCI-P3 standard, a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and a typical brightness of 400 cd/m². The panel is DisplayHDR 400 certified and LG claims the 49WQ95C-W is factory colour calibrated. Connectivity consists of two HDMI 2.0 ports, one DP 1.4, as well as a USB Type-C port that also supports 90 W power delivery. For some odd reason, LG only added a USB 2.0 Type-B upstreams port, yet there are two USB Type-A 3.0 downstreams ports. The monitor also has a headphone jack, as well as a pair of 10 W speakers built in. The stand supports height adjustment, as well as tilt and swivel. LG didn't provide any official pricing.

Not gonna lie, i’m somewhat interested. If the panel is similar to their 27” 144hz 1440p display i’ve been using i’ll probably get one depending on the $$$$$.

Personally their warranty's can be a pain too, even more so at these sizes. I went though a load of crap with it with them with mine as the original box was no longer suitable for shipping anf they told me to tell UPS\Fedex find a box to put the boxed monitor in lmao.

How ever they were willing to pay for it but finding such box never happened and there fore got a cracked screen one of ebay for $66 and replaced what i needed and been no issue since haha.

I did that with one for my Korean 1440P monitors back in the day. It was a revelation seeing nothing but a logic board(s) and speakers. I can only imagine how cavernous a huge TV would be.

This does look sexy and that Aspect Ratio is no joke. The only issue I can't get past is the screen height. Though you can imagine that is only an opinion. They had another one of these before but 144Hz is very compelling. You would not even need VR for some situations to get full immersion. I have had 49 before but love the speed of my 32QC. $1700 is a bummer because if they sold this for $1500 Canadian (1179 US) it would sell like hotcakes. I would love to see a TPU side by side review of this vs The Gigabyte Aorus 48FOU. Which screen actually has the higher pixel density?

I think it would be fine as long as you have a gpu that can push that framerate at that native res.

This why you always keeps the boxes, get rid of anything else but the box! It's amazing how even semi legit mega brands like LG go (almost) out of their way to not honor warranty with BS conditions

Well F me if the new cards from Nvidia and AMD are as fast as some of the claims I have seen this will be nothing. It is Game support I am more worried about.

No it's not, not nearly enough. LG haven't worked out how to curve IPS in any meaningful way. This'll be a curve radius of 3000 or 4000 most likely. That means that it might curve in 8-10 degrees on each edge, which will do pretty much nothing of value when you're viewing something that large at 60-70 degrees off-angle. The curve takes that down to 50-60 degrees off-angle which is still atrocious, especially with IPS corner glow becoming pretty significant beyond about 45 degrees.

People don't seem to like curves that match the viewing distance, but at least a radius of 1500R or something would reduce that off-angle at the edges to a more reasonable 30 degrees or so....

I keep my boxes, problem was the polythene is cracked places and heavily in one corner, and was worried about shipping it from the east side of the country to cali.

And Fedex take pictures before sending too so the damage to packaging would of shown.

But all LG could and did say was get one of them to get a bigger box, and the cost of the bigger box LG was willing to pay for but they could not find one.

Yep i keep every box in case they try to pull that shit, how ever small or large.

That's a crap resolution for a monstrous display. At this size it would want to be 7640 x 2160 at least.

Make it 38" and 5120 x 2560, 100% Adobe RGB, HDR600, 1000 nits, DelE < 2, 120Hz, and under $1200 and I'm in.

Too wide for my tastes. If I want a wide screen I go and grab a TV. In My case this is utter crap. I am thinking of getting another monitor for business, 24 inches and put it to my upper left/left and go dual.

I wouldn't worry about it most people that do content creation for living usually know a thing or two about monitors since it will greatly affect their workflow(Money).

And wouldn't be buying this for that.

Haven't even unboxed it yet. It only arrived last Monday (18th), and I've been super busy with other stuff ever since.
