While Gears of War is fast approaching it's first birthday, a PC version is being planned for a November 6th release. Fans of the Xbox 360 version of Gears of War will be happy to know it's not just another lousy port of a console game. DirectX10 support make the visuals positively breathtaking, there are five new single-player chapters (including an encounter with Brumak), three new multiplayer maps, a "king of the hill" multiplayer mode, and of course a map editor. For those truly curious as to the current shape of Gears of War PC, check out the 1Up preview here.

Wow, 5 new chapters. Thats sweet considering that the 360 version was so short.

well that is the difference between a pc and a console, no doubt the extra chapters will be available for the xbox version via micro transactions at a later date.

The commercials made me want to play the game but xbox isn't my kind of console. This should be great =)

Yup, I'm sure they're be downloadable on Xbox Live later, for MS Points tho.

The thing that pisses me off about this game is the fact that the 'Run' key is the same key as 'Jump' and 'Stick to walls'. I don't know what the freaks at epic were thinking. 'Run' and 'Stop behind a wall' are 2 completely opposite functions. Trust me, the game is NOT smart enough to determine whether or not you're trying to run, or stick to a wall. If you're under fire during a multiplayer match, and try to escape fire by Running, the game thinks you're trying to stick to a wall - you'll get stuck there for about 1 second - enough time to get killed. buy this game, and you'll see what I mean.

the issue is that it was made for the average console gamer. if you have more buttons than fingers, they start to freak out. that's why run/stop are the same thing. in the first twisted metal, if you double-tap break, you get turbo.

But there's still a little tweaking to do though. You could be running to one place then all of a sudden you get sucked to a wall. Kind of annoying when it happens quite a bit. When you try to run behind cover you're usually stuck to it. But the more you get used to it and how it works the less it happens.

i know, GOW is exactly the reason why my 360 is a paperweight untill i can run a keyboard on it.

This is one game on the Xbox that I'm a huge fan of, can't wait for it.

Now if they will just bring the Armored Core series to the PC!!!

This game is gonna rock!

I wonder if it will take a Quad-Core CPU to play it, just like the other console-port we have - Lost Planet.

Why did I think this was on the pc already? Oh wait, it was in my latest issue of maximum pc. It looked fantastic to boot!

Yesshh, just like Halo. :) and yesh it's gonna rock with the DX10.

Isn't it kind of weird that they would port GOW over to the PC one year after it's launch, but not Halo 3?

Or do you think they will? They have never done that with any of the other Halo games, but they have also never done it with any of the other Xbox-exclusive games.

Can you imagine Halo 3 on the PC by 2009? Wow.

I think I might be misunderstanding your point, but both Halo 1 and 2 are available on PC. (Halo 1 is also on Mac)

you may need quad core to run it on Vista but lost planet run perfect for me on xp with a crappy pentium d 820, id expect gears of war to run fine considering the unreal game engine.

No, I'm talking about the delay between the console launch and the PC launch.
For the Halo games so far it has been 3 years.
For GOW it's only a single year.

So what about Halo 3? Surely they need it to sale the 360, right? But then why are they porting over GOW which undoubtably was a major selling point for the console.. or maybe that's the point - it WAS a major selling point and now they could make more money by porting it over..

I'd appriciate constructive imput.. even though no one actually knows anything for sure at this point :o

I think halo took so long to port because microshaft is smart. if you have console and pc gamers play together, suddenly every console player is going to get raped. give them a few years to practice first.
