Benchmark Scores I dont have time for that.
Just don't buy on Ebay and let the scalpers bleed, if it's not for sale in a retail store then don't bother.

Pretty straight forward.

This is what I do, did it for miners too. I simply wont buy the cards. Let the $3k in extra "investment" sit in a box in there closet.

The secret has been out for some time that consumers are willing to pay much more than was previously imagined for a graphics card.
Knowing that the market can bear significantly higher prices, manufacturers have adapted because they are businesses, not charities.
If scalpers don't get burned we can expect even higher prices in the future.

I don't understand why people are so desperate to shell out $1600-2500 for a GPU that might be a losing flagship.

Honestly, the rumours for RDNA3 are all over the place but they range from "about the same as a 4090" all the way up to 4x the performance of the RX 6950XT. For all we know, the 4090 is the better card, but I'm not such a blind Nvidia zealot that I'll buy their stuff no matter what.

I'll buy their stuff if it's better than the other teams' stuff.

They'd have to improve RT by nearly 3x-4x for me to care about their flagship.... I'd expect double which would put them in the Ampere neighborhood but I doubt they will remotely come close to ada.

Would love to be wrong though.

you made the simple defense for scalping (creating an artificial extra middle man that does not contribute anything) was "iI don't blame the people trying to make a buck."
and again, by that same line, that same defense, theft should be fine as well, all they are doing is "making a buck"

off the backs of others sure, but so are scalpers and you are fine with that so yeah.
Uhm, the difference is consent. If you buy from a scalper, it is with your consent, noone is forcing you. I don;t understand why are you even comparing the two, it's completely absurd, that's like comparing sex with rape.

You missed out a some, we had a poll and I have no idea how many Enthusiasts exactly said they would buy a 4090 no Matter what the price but it sure as shit wasn't a high percentage and the percentage of regular Joe's who would pay is less than that.

That likely still makes for a useful market for a few scalpers but it is not a widespread thing to pay scalpers.

I still haven't got that Ps5 or new GPU and my Vegas looking old at this point but I am not buying at elevated prices, many won't, in fact this scalper shit and the downturn is impacting peoples choices and I think many are turning away from pc gaming and thinking f it I'll console game or take up pidgin shooting or something IE f that pcmr shit I'm out, we will all pay if this keeps up IMHO.

The rumoured spec is 2.4x more compute units at about 1.5x the clock speed.

So yeah, on paper, 3x-4x RT improvements are extremely likely - because that's just the result of scaling up RDNA2 to the rumoured size and clocks.

In reality, RDNA3 won't be using RNDA2's RT units. AMD's senior vice president (David Wang) can be quoted directly: "RDNA3 includes rearchitected Compute Units with enhanced ray-tracing capabilities". So, based solely on that quote we have to assume that each compute unit (of which Navi31 has 2.4x more than a 6950XT) is better at raytracing. How much better depends on how successful AMD were, but they are unlikely to be worse.

2.4x more units?
1.5x higher clocks?
1.5x architectural gains?

We'll know a bit more in 3 weeks, and I also hope you're wrong ;)

Sure hope so as well... I don't find it to be as much as an issue on the 700 tier card and lower but their 7800XT and 7900XT better not just be a repeat of RDNA2 similar rasterized performance but crippled RT in RT heavy games. Especially since both 4080s look like a joke otherwise.

Aye, both the 3070 and 6700XT had around half the Raytracing performance of the flagships.

I've really liked the RX 6600 8GB for replacing peoples' old GTX 1060 and RX570 cards from five years ago. It was also one of the first cards to come down in price after the price hike madness of the Pandemic and ETH mining boom. The problem is that it's RT performance is so weak that you wouldn't really ever use DXR in games.

For sure, the 6600/6600XT have been great at typically much lower pricing than Nvidia alternatives.

"Funny thing"...I bought a month ago a RTX3080Ti Gigabyte OC for 1129€ (Spain), checked the price again now...it is 1565,17€.

Not sure what's going on but this fluctuation in prices is getting out of hand and nonsensical at all.

There are 2 Inno3D Models for the 4090, one for 2289€ and the other for 2099,89€, and then a Gigabyte Windoforce RTX4090 for 2099,89€.

And here I am trying to buy a 4090 when I have a GTX 690 from 2012 lol... Guess Nvidia only cares about the users of the more recent cards :(

In all honesty, Best Buy needs to implement more security measures against bots for hot release items. A Captcha and an email code... something.

I'm just glad to see Nvidia trying to counter the scalpers. At least they are trying.

Now, I hope AMD can think of something new to try too, to get it in the hands of gamers at MSRP, and not fuck head third party sellers.

Am I allowed to say fuck the bots and scalpers on this site two sentences in a row? Well, I am doing it three times. Fuck those third party seller fucks.

@the54thvoid if you need to delete this post and dock me points, I will find it completely acceptable, but I will not apologize for the scourge ruining one of the last hobbies that gives me happiness. :toast:

Absolutely, before I started working in IT, I worked a regular job with regular people, making crappy everyday man pay. We are talking over 20 years ago. I was an avid Everquest player at the time. I remember showing the game to numerous console gamers. Most wanted to play, but they just couldn't see past dropping a $1000 to build a good enough PC. Fast-forward 4 or 5 years later, most of those people started playing WoW because you could play it on a potato. If the prices continue in this way, more and more people will just turn to consoles. I can play the latest games at 4K in HDR on my TV with my Xbox Series X. Try doing that on a PC for the same price.

That's because the die is 608mm² on a tick-tick-tock TSMC 4N peak end process nowhere near ready for mass production. On top of that remember that Nvidia recently stated that they lowered gaming GPU production by 40%.

just checked ebay .... yup, various 4090s on sale, all for well over $2,000.

Guess that settles it then ... no 4090 for me. 50% resolution scaling in Assetto Corsa with rain and light effects in VR with the REverb G2 with the 3080ti for a while

Yeah and $2,000 is the minimum someone would have to sell the card for. After Tax at $150+, eBay fees are at least $260 on a $2,000 listing. That means they would have to get at least $2,010 just to break even.

If you are dumb enough to buy this card at this time (immediately after launch, with full lineup and AMDs response still unknown), you deserve the scalper prices.
Hell if you are willing to spend thousands of dollars for a videocard, then you deserve these prices too.

Borderline monopolistic practices is more like it. I think there should be laws capping profit margin. That would be a better fix for inflation than the interest rate manipulation they use now.
Capping profit margin to fix inflation may be one of the most brain dead things I've read in a LONG time, and its a great way to ensure that true success in any industry finds its way elsewhere.
Let all the stone throwers join in and call me names and what not. I bet I could get arrested talking like that is 20 or so of the states that make up the United States of America.
*GUYS NOTICE ME AND MY OPINION*
I don't believe anyone foresaw the unbridled greed that exists in this day and age. Morality and civility be damned. I can't rightly say that ripping people off for something they don't need is really immoral, but it is certainly greedy in a perverse way. It only contributes more to the problems at hand. People starving or living without shelter, meanwhile others are spending $2K on a damn video card to play video games. I love to relax and unwind with some gaming, but this has gotten to be absurd.
Bruh, its a video card, calm down. The lack of a 4090 at $2k isnt gonna fix any of societies issues LMFAO.

Go outside and touch some grass man, youve been cooped up too long.

I'd bet that 99% of those handwringing about how expensive the 4090 is would never buy one if they were at MSRP.

Luxury product is expensive, news at 11. Those that were willing to spend over $1500 on a video card will likely find ways to spend $2k on the same card. they either have tons of disposable income or are using it in capabilities beyond gaming where the income justifies the expense.

manufacturers have adapted because they are businesses, not charities.

I promise you not a single soul is seeking charitable aid from NVIDIA.... haven't seen anyone suggesting "please can i have a free card or go on if I buy one can I get another free". This old and over-used "its-business-not-charity" parallel is uncompromisingly meaningless which ultimately sets the notion that wider consumer disapproval/apprehension carries zero worth.

On the flip side.... i guess some self-explanatory food for thought - how about we switch from "its a business, not a charity" to "it's a customer, not a donor"??

Capping profit margin to fix inflation may be one of the most brain dead things I've read in a LONG time, and its a great way to ensure that true success in any industry finds its way elsewhere.

I don't kno about that it works for certain sports like F1 but it didn't do much for NBA or NFL.

Technically if the car is highly sought after the Dealer will scalp you anyways here in the states hybrids were marked up 10k during peak covid and I believe even now there are 2-6k markups over MSRP.
Maybe now, wan't really the case before covid though.............................sigh........................

That's because the die is 608mm² on a tick-tick-tock TSMC 4N peak end process nowhere near ready for mass production. On top of that remember that Nvidia recently stated that they lowered gaming GPU production by 40%.
Apple's using it for their A16 & likely some of the upcoming Mx chips ~ if that's not what you call as ready for mass production I dunno what does o_O

This is all on NVIDIA at this point in time!
