NVIDIA RTX 4090 Scalped Out of Stock, Company Tests "Verified Priority Access" Buying Program

I seriously hope AMD's next card is just as fast as this and has a much better street price.

I hear you, this is probably the last nVidia (My RTX3070Ti) I bought from nVidia and I only did so because my GTX660Ti died on me.

Scalpers are not the problem, it's those willing to pay absurd prices for GPUs.

I agree, scalpers are only a problem if there are enough idiots to purchase the product at inflated pricing.

I don't really blame the people trying to make a buck.

The issue is the prices on eBay are similar to the prices at launch in some markets.
The 4090 is stupidly expensive in the real world.

just checked ebay .... yup, various 4090s on sale, all for well over $2,000.

Guess that settles it then ... no 4090 for me. 50% resolution scaling in Assetto Corsa with rain and light effects in VR with the REverb G2 with the 3080ti for a while

If i Was running Ebay, I would just ban those accounts myself

Eh thats like saying you are ok with Theft as well

Not even remotely comparable. Would I be bummed if they made laws outlawing it hell no but scalpers are paying full price for items and then passing them off to idiots.

Now if I was ok with them hijacking delivery trucks and then selling off the gpus at scalper prices then maybe you could make a comparison.

Hey I'd probably pay to watch that in real life :pimp:

Yeah, I don't understand why are pre-order so hard to set up... Just let everyone get in line and ship when available. It's crazy.

It's not impossible. Apple does it every year with their newest iPhone and other hot products. Their carrier and retail partners seem to be able to handle it too.

And they seem to have devised enough policies to minimize scalping.

I was going to add Fast and the Furious style but figured the comparison would come across without it

People are doing the same in Denmark ,Buying 2k+ USD cards and trying to get 2.2k-2.6k USD for them. its fucking insane
Its launch hype. Same old, but it got mainstream much like gaming did.

As always, patience is key

you made the simple defense for scalping (creating an artificial extra middle man that does not contribute anything) was "iI don't blame the people trying to make a buck."
and again, by that same line, that same defense, theft should be fine as well, all they are doing is "making a buck"

off the backs of others sure, but so are scalpers and you are fine with that so yeah.

Getting ripped off is a choice in the case of scalped product but its a given with theft.

Entitlement is the basis for saying these are the same things. If people pay a price product gets sold at said price. Simple market.

Can't agree on that, sure this may apply to the 4090 with its already absurd price but getting ripped off is often not a choice! I was in a similar situation about 2 years back around peak Covid but thankfully Zotac's "extended" warranty came through & didn't have to pay stupid prices for ordinary cards.

Blame the idiots as much as you want but throw a dart or two at the greedy scalpers as well.

Looking at the sold list on Ebay, most go for 2200 -2400 mark. How genuine the sold list is, is another thing, because I suspect some are fake buyers, part of the scam to bump up prices & making the card look like it's good value.

The key difference is one is legal the other is not... Didn't realize on a tech forum I had to distinguish that I'm ok with someone making a buck legally but not illegally.

I hate scalpers as much as the next person at the same time what they are doing is legal and the systems in place allow them to make a buck off of high demand items.

I'm more upset with retailers not having better systems in place to combat bots etc.

All of this is Nvidia 101 playbook. Zero stock at launch, counting on scalpers to artificially cripple supply, then raise prices through all channels.

Except... It is not... gonna... work...

4090 already offers ZERO perf/$ gain over the now $999 3090ti and even worse so vs. $799 6900XT. Yeah it's fast, but most people don't have $1.7k laying around these days...

Also:
- AMD
- Intel
- 2nd hand market.

Without miners to buy out all Nvidia supply, this stupid shortage will be short lived and is just dumb. Just wait for AMD cards and rejoice later.

Like this?
Surely you jest, JHH won't stoop this low or would he :D

Just don't buy on Ebay and let the scalpers bleed, if it's not for sale in a retail store then don't bother.

Pretty straight forward.

That was a combination of miners and scalpers and both AMD/Nvidia selling direct to miners.

That being said I got 6 cards during that time period 3 3080ti, 1 3080 10G, and 2 3060ti pretty easily for systems during covid inflated msrp but not scalpers so it wasn't really impossible.

Maybe I'm slightly less salty becuase I sold multiple cards at disgusting prices on ebay just putting them up for bid during that time my 3080ti ended up costing less than 400 usd out of pocket after selling my Titan Xp also sold some 5700XT for 1k smh.

I guess I could have sold them on this forum for discounted pricing but who's to say the people buying them wouldn't drop them on ebay themselves trust me I thought about it at least.

Thread is kinda getting sidetracked.... I wanted a 4090 FE but scalpers using legal methods beat me to them I'm bummed sure but life goes on.

There I was saying "scalpers are here to stay" just week ago and people were saying "whatcha talking bout, mining is over". Well, here we are...

Not remotely surprising. These were always going to sell out. All product launches for electronics are engineered to sell out to drive hype and FOMO.

It'd be more worrying if they didn't sell out (like in the case of Zen 4).

In most launch in the last 10 years, cards got sold out on day one. The unusual stuff of the pandemic was that they didn't come back stock and stayed stock soon after.

I didn't wanted to buy one, but I could, and that is the first launch in a while that I could buy one.

Don't plan to buy anything until Dec/Jan Anyway
I bought my 5800X3D and 4k with my 6800XT I get 166.8 FPS at 4K(FV43U) High using FSR in Cyberpunk 2077. So I too am waiting. I think I need to go to the local PC store and see my friend to get him to order me one of what I am getting (7000) :) though. Xmas could be absolutely Crazy. I wanted to get an ARC 750-770 card for Gotham Knights (Batman, Shadow of War, Sleeping Dogs) but after seeing the prices in Canada (and other info given to me by another user) they can kma ($400+). There were 4090s available on Newegg for $3999.99 on launch day. I see them on Ebay too for up to $3500 and that is insane in a world where the advantage of Mining high value crypto has evaporated (for now). There is also the fact that the cost of living is too damn high. This card is a slap in the face to most people and yes there are enough people with money to buy them but it is unfair and morally reprehensible. I don't see scalper cards moving either because AMD has proven they are no joke. and Dec is fast approaching. Imagine what would have made EVGA dissolve their extremely lucrative relationship with Nvidia? I mean they literally built their foundation on Nvidia GPUs? We are a community and regardless of where we live most people agree with Good will so $1599 can also kma. Indeed as much as I want a 7000 if AMD (who seem to be more fair) but they are in the same cloud as the rest of them. Then there is the size of this card. I asked on the MSI Gaming live stream yesterday 3 times in the Chat that. If I bought one of these (humongous) cards and had a MSI Ace board, that comes with a M2 adapter for the 2nd PCie slot would I run into any issues using that with one of these cards? I am still waiting for a response. The thing that blows my mind though is the 3090TI has the same power draw and is about 2/3 the mass. Locking the voltage is another gripe as clearly with a 600W maximum power draw and a 2Kg heatsink that you could get absolutely killer performance tuning the card to your heart's desire.

It is public knowledge that demand is down. (IMO) Nvidia is just releasing limited stock to create the illusion of demand. The waitlist is just a front to whitewash the rediculous prices NVIDIA is already asking. I am not a buyer at last generations prices, skipping this like many others. The new trend is for enthusiasts to be 1 generation behind. It should be anyway, let's make it a movement.
