At TechPowerUp we are currently looking for one, maybe two additional news editors to strengthen our ranks. This is a paid, part-time, remote position. You will be publishing news stories and press releases on our frontpage under minimal supervision.

As candidate you should bring a drive to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the tech industry, and a passion to write. Your written English should be excellent; non-native writers are welcome. Some basic image editing skills are required.

If you are interested, send the following to w1zzard@techpowerup.com:
  • Some personal info. Who? Where? Age? A bullet list will do.
  • Pick any recent hardware news topic, write your own news story about it. Length should be similar to TPU news posts (between 150 to 200 words).
  • Write a second story, an opinion piece on a different hardware news topic of your choosing. 200 to 250 words.

Please proofread your submissions properly. The deadline for applications is in two weeks (Feb 12).

I only know what I get paid, but then again, I have well over a decade worth of experience in the business.
Yes, it helps with the bills, assuming you contribute enough.

I guess it would be more like, consistent amounts paid or is it if the industry slows down would I be SOL. Not very keen on putting in effort if the starting pay is below minimum wage at 20hrs/wk.

Think of the poor mods.

It's about the passion, not the pay. Well, that's what I tell myself to spend I dunno how many hours volunteering per week, wiping bums and getting grief.

Good luck to whoever gets it. But please - no political news shitposting. :D

I'm assuming you get paid per article (with bonuses related to views?).

I haven't decided on payment details yet. If your work stands out over other candidates, I have no problem paying more

It's a part time position btw, 1, maybe 2 hours a day. If you are awesome though I'm sure we can find more work.

But yes, this is more about passion for tech and writing than making an easy buck

In the past we had a fixed per month pay, which led to increasingly lower output from people over time, so this time I feel like I want to go more performance focused. Bonuses related to views is a good idea indeed

Don't worry lads, I won't apply, I am pretty sure the mods wouldn't appreciate news articles ending in all capital letters "YEEEEHAAA BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE FIRST ASTRONAUT OF TPU, LOOKS LIKE WE GET SOME GREAT NEW CASES TODAY!!!!

Not going to lie, I'd be entertaining as hell, but the mods would get gray hair overnight :roll::roll::roll::roll::roll:

@W1zzard You didn't mention it but probably it has to be American English, not Queen's English, right? Like when you were seeking a proofreader?

Мost used languages in 2022. Chinese is equal to English. Maybe be must have articles on Chinese and that should be part of the requirements as well.
only 1,4 bilion Chinese and who use chinese in business can read chinese.
English is better, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indo, USA, EU, Africa, Australia, Russian, ..... can read english and understand same meaning.

Why? If you’re not targeting the Chinese market then it’s of little benefit as a writer. Steve from GN has benefited from learning some Mandarin but that’s a fairly niche requirement.
Maybe we're missing some interesting hardware development news that has no equivalent in English?

They continue to be a huge market despite the sanctions and are quite solvent. :)

10% (!) of our overall traffic comes from China, because we're not a CN media, so they trust us more than their own sites. Making a CN version of TPU is complicated. We need to talk to new advertisers to finance it, but we don't know their language or culture. Also moving money in and out of CN isn't trivial, so we'd need to setup a local office, which costs even more money. Once once we've done all that, CN people would say we're a CN media, and they'll stop trusting us

Sounds like….a lose lose proposition to me. It was a good idea in theory TumbleGeorge, but obviously Wizz succinctly described the difficulty and possible near-impossibility to do so practically.

Yes the problem with trust exist, maybe not quite as described, but exist. :(

since no effort is made in this direction, it is a downright huge percentage
Good point, but might take 100% effort to get 15% vs. 10% of the Chinese traffic.
