Diamond xDNA Allows CrossFire on Any Chipset With Any Cards

How can they do this without the go ahead from NV/AMD and all the chipset manufactures. This would require modding of chipset and graphics driver which are copy written. Seems odd there the only ones that are allowed to do this. I would think a company that used both brands of GPUs would get the green light first. Maybe there the first to come out with it and NV and AMD have open there hearts to the idea of sharing:slap: or it could be BS?

I imagine a low-level driver could work around the chipset driver and force the cards to communicate. Maybe even spoofing the chipset so it thinks the cards are Nvidia :shrugs:

Well it is called xDNA.. perhaps the DNA part is in reference to the card "tricking" the ATi driver to think it's in an AMD chipset.

So, is xDNA a chip on the cards or is it some exclusive Diamond driver set?

if xDNA is software based, i hope that it gets rev engineerd in some way so an nvidia affiliate could release a driver which would let me sli on my p35 board. i would be very hapy with 2x 8800 512mb gt's on my ds4 :toast:

I'm not a making technical point but a legal one. Diamond only make ATI cards so why would NV allow them to bypass there software when OEMs like MSI how makes both AMD and NV mobos and graphic cards can't. You can make a PC that runs OSx but Apple will sue you so I'd think NV wouldn't be happy about a AMD partner messing with there platform.

Yes.... u right man.... Nvidia will make a hotfix or some thing to disable CF will this happen on there platform...

And one more thing.... it will effect games as well.... Lets say a game that support Crossfire and see the mobo use Nvidia SLI chipset... sure it will disable it or the other side....:rockout:

if crossfire is available on more chip sets, doesn't that mean more mobo sales for nvidia and intel? which means fewer cpu sales for amd, too. unless that crazy 3 ghz ht link is really nice, I think amd is going to be a little pissed about this.

diamond have made nvidia graphics cards, i cant say about these days but in the past they had, ive still got an ancient Diamond Riva 128 lol. besides that i agree, nvidia wouldnt be happy about this if diamond/ati cards have a distinct compatability edge, or w/e ect..

Everybody is missing the point i believe...they talk about doing it WITH DIAMOND CARDS...so it may be the "beginning" for the other´s cards but for now , one have to buy Diamond cards to do so...what´s the point , getting Diamond instead other´s ???.

NV won't driver disable this.. that makes them look like the bad guy, which hurts sales. If anything thing this will cause a chain reaction that will bring about both AMD and NVIDIA allowing their multi-card tech on any chipset.

i think this is great! now i am not limited to just an SLI upgrade option with my nforce 590 sli board. i guess the only downfall is that, diamond's cards are usually more expensive than saphire's... so i hope they don't up it that much more with this...

Logically, it will hurt nvidia's graphics cards sales, but increase their motherboard sales.

Anyway, its about time this kind of tech is coming out.

Very tempting to get, even though 1 of my peg slots is only PCIe x4 I think this could be pretty nice, specially with the lower power 38xx's

NVIDIA will sue you first. They threatened to sue us for hosting "SLI patch" which violates NVIDIA trademarks.

I highly doubt xDNA will happen. If AMD doesn't want this to happen they will just tell Diamond that they are low on stock and have to prioritize where the cards go to. Since Diamond makes evil software they will have to look at their other board partners

From what I have heard

Software crossfire on Nvidia Chipsets suck ass, and hard Crossfire works great.
