Phenom Retail Prices Released

agreed...
ill be extremely surprised if it can hit 2.8-3.0 on air, then that would be a treat in itself

no1 remember the overdrive post?? it clearly showed the clocks on one particular cpu doing 3.3 and below

Really? They appear to be more expensive than the forthcoming Intel Yorkfield 45nm quads due for release in Jan.....see my post above.

how can the yorkfields be cheaper then the q6600's?

45nm cost less to make

Hmm still a little too expensive to be very very competitive in price to performance. Not to mention if 2.4 is all the got now....Intel's going to hammer them on clock speed while they can.

Ill be grabbing me one of these soon :)

45nm cost less to make

You can say that about ALL new technology almost. But, just because something is cheaper to make doesn't mean it will necessarily cost less. The overhead required before you even factor in the price of the actual chip is what accounts for a lot of the cost.

45nm cost less to make

But it's newer....
and yields are lower....
and current tech will be obsolete and will drop in price.....

So I don't believe you. Just because the move to 45nm saves die space and silicon space doesn't mean the first batches will be cheaper to make, and definitely doesn't mean the first batches will be cheaper to buy. It just means that when the process is mature the chips will cost less to make and buy and will use less power.

It's gonna come down to how they perform vs. their price and intel's prices. If the q6600 drops soon and they perform like the previews show.... they may not be a very good buy. If they OC very well, or drop in price quickly, or perform better than previews, or the q6600 and new quads stay expensive, it could be a much better buy.
