NVIDIA will launch its new G98 GPU in early December according to DigiTimes. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) will both serve as foundries for the new chip. The 65nm-made G98 was set for launch in January 2008, a time-frame that is close to the launch schedule of rival AMD's RV620, but thanks to the buoyant sales of G80 and growing attention for the G92, NVIDIA is preparing to launch the G98 sooner than originally planned. The official name for G98 will be GeForce 8400GS. Concerned over a future ramp of GPUs, including the G92 for the mainstream market, as well as possible capacity shortages at TSMC, NVIDIA will also place G98 foundry orders at TSMC's rival UMC.

An 8400GS......so what's the big deal? :p: Or did I miss something?
You can't always want manufacturers to relase high-end cards only. ;) This is a good solution for the low segment.

Agreed. However, the "G98" is what threw me off. Just seems backwards to me. :p

I am slightly confused. Isn't there already a 8400GS?!

8400 gs - for the next generation of multimedia calculators, see all those graphs come to life with direct x 10.

Yea, I could actually see PR saying something like that.. "Excel and Matlab graphs come to LIFE!!"

as i understand, this is just updated 8400gs

They should rename the news title to "NVIDIA Prepares Early Launch of 8400gs in December"
as I too was sucked into this thread watering for a device made to pwn 8800 Ultras like slugs bathing in salt

Where the hell and when the hell are they going to get to the 9xxx series cards?

Can you play just any DX 10 game with medium settings using a 8400 GS ?

lol, no, 8600gt has troubles getting 30fps in crysis

The one thing I hate about NVIDIA. The ONE THING I hate, is that they sometimes take more backwards steps than forwards steps.

ATI has success in the midrange and lowrange market, perhaps they want to as well (nvidia). Granted, the G98 was supposed to be an upgrade to the 8900, or so we were all led to believe.
