PowerColor Website Updated with Radeon RX 9070 XT Hellhound & Reaper Models

Late last week, the official PowerColor website was updated with dedicated product pages for their Radeon RX 9070 XT Hellhound and Reaper custom designs going live. As expected, a bare minimum of information is displayed alongside multiple promo images—we witnessed this exact same pattern with the Red Devil's official listing, half-way through January. AMD's board partners are seemingly keeping quiet about first wave RDNA 4 hardware specifications—TechPowerUp and other tech news outlets have, so far, ascertained the fundamentals from leaks and accidental listings.

An extensive hands-on experience—at CES—was covered in our news section, but PowerColor's showroom representatives were not overly chatty when asked about under-the-hood details. Allegedly, the company's Radeon RX 9070 (non-XT) Reaper model has turned up at a British e-tailer's warehouse—printed SKU info indicated the presence of 16 GB VRAM. Judging from photos and renders, the Navi-48 GPU-based Hellhound and Reaper are relatively svelte when compared to the chunkily-proportioned (triple-slot) Red Devil. The new Hellhound model occupies the middle of PowerColor's graphics card product stack—this dual-slot design features a smattering of RGB lighting and a dual BIOS switching system, the latter implies that a factory overclock has been implemented. The slightly smaller (SFF-friendly) affordable-tier Reaper card is reportedly specced with reference clocks—looking at photos, there is no physical mode switcher present on this design. The barebones Reaper aesthetic does not encompass fancy integrated lighting systems—anti-RGB champions will find this choice most pleasing.

Well, one thing is for sure - RX 9070 series were set for launch in January. IMHO, AMD does not need extra time to smooth out FSR4. That's bullshit.
RX 9070 XT has already been listed on few e-shops with prices surpasing 1100€ incl. VAT. Okay, they might have been just placeholders ...
From my point of view, AMD planned to price RX 9070 XT at around $699, which was still way too much compared to Nvidia's RTX 5070 MSRP.
(What we know from AMD is the price is gonna be between $400-$1000.)

The cheapest RX 7900 XT costs in my country 800€ incl. VAT (Sapphire Pulse edition). That's 650€ without VAT and that's for AIB model.
Now, if RX 9070 XT is indeed faster than RX 7900 XT, that would mean RX 7900 XT is gonna be overpriced, same as 7800 XT and so on.
My real expectation for RX 9070 XT price in EU is around 700€ incl. VAT for AIB model, ASUS TUF over 780-800 €. Hopefully I'm wrong.

If AMD wants to compete with RTX 5070, their MSRP for RX 9070 XT should not be higher than $529 (= basically 700€ incl. VAT for AIB card).

Two possible options for AMD:
1. release new card cheaper than intended, do a price correction for previous generation across the board,
2. let's get extra time and try to make something up that will justify the intended price to minimize losses on new cards as well on previous gen cards.

Option 1 would mean this:
RX 7900 XT's price will need to drop to around 580-600 € incl. VAT, RX 7800 XT to 460-480 € incl. VAT and so on.
Horrendous situation for a card that is assumed to have at least RX 7900 XTX's ray tracing performance and 10% higher than RX 7900 XT rasterizing performance at 260W TGP.

I'm gonna go with my mentioned expectation and hope for 700 € incl. VAT.

Sadly, it's true. I just watched the video in question from Gplay.bg (basically THE official AMD partner for Bulgaria). According to the owner of Gplay, the 9070 was supposed to launch at 1800 BGN (VAT incl.), which is more or less 900 euro, while 9070 XT was priced at a little more than 2000 BGN (again, VAT incl.), which is around 1000 euro. This leads me to believe that the AMD execs are smoking crack and those prices (750 USD and 900 USD) are the MSRP without VAT. The only thing that's in the air and is yet to be confirmed is the AIBs for which he was talking about, but in most cases he tends to mention only the lowest priced models such as AsRock Phantom (the ones with little to no markup over MSRP). This would mean that the Nitro+ and the Red Devil could come to 1.2-1.3k euro with this pricing.

In my opinion, this is insane. 950 euro is what I paid for my Powercolor Hellhound 7900 XTX + 2 AAA games back in May 2023. This scummy behaviour from AMD shall not be tolerated. My next card will be either 6080 or 6090. AMD - never again. I will miss Powercolor, tho.

I know that AMD really wants to price their GPUs as high as they can but I dont think that would be that dumb to even try that, especially when they have said over and over that this is a mid-tier GPU.

But you know the drill, someone spread a fake rumor like this and because is against AMD, the haters will run with it as if it was gospel.

This is simple: there's still unsold stock of RDNA3 cards, like 7900 XT and XTX. Their price isn't going anywhere, since AMD themselves said, that 9070 XT is not going to challenge XTX version. So the higher price is here to stay. And since both 7900XT and 7900XTX can be fount for north of $1000-$1100, in many countries. You can bet, that AMD will make everything to stick their MSRP for as long as they can, to at least to 7900XT street price... because they can.

Also, they can claim that 9070XT is direct rival for RTX 5070, thus this will mean that, AMD will price it to whatever nVidia will set, and sell...

This is obvious, that AMD delayed the release of 9070 and RDNA4, not only due to drivers, but due to greed as well. If they can get away with this, they will absolutely will go all-in, because consumers would not be able to do anything, but to buy for whatever price it will cost. Yeah. The can play it like: yea, card is somewhat pricey a bit but hey, it comes with these 5 games bundled, those are worth like $50 each. What a deal!

Guys, though I'd really like to ever again see those days of mid range GPUs priced around 400€ incl. VAT, an upper or real mid range GPU is now RX 7900 XT and RTX 5070 (Ti). 7800XT is mediocre midrange, and I know what I'm talking about, because I own one. (RX 6800 XT was a proper midrange SKU, btw.) With RTX 5080 and RX 7900 XTX, we're talking about highend and anything above is enthusiast class. Maybe not performance-wise but surely price-wise.

Thank to TSMC, Nvidia for those prices. AMD would be dumb to go for charity run this time. Assuming they have product in hands with potential to attack RTX 4080S bar (between 5070 and 5070 Ti), they have absolutely no reason to price it significantly below. As was said, AMD is company as any other in capitalism, it's money that matters to them. Sadly. World has changed, gaming is no longer priority of Nvidia and neither of AMD.

I hope that Intel brings reasonable performance upgrades in B700 series. And I hope that Intel 18A will become success, as TSMC really needs competition. Without competition, TSMC can raise prices and any player dependent on them (Apple, Nvidia, AMD, ...) will just add those raise in production costs to final product price. Don't expect prices to lower with TSMC holding monopoly here.

PowerColor is the only brand that does white GPUs properly, they have white, PCB, cables, heatsink... unlike all others that just slap a white backplate / cooler shroud.
