Assassin’s Creed Shadows is finally here, transporting players to feudal Japan in an open-world adventure filled with stealth, combat, and exploration. Shadows finally brings RT support to the series and delivers stunning visuals but also demands powerful hardware. In our performance review, we examine its graphical fidelity, VRAM usage, and how well it runs on a variety of modern GPUs.

So the Upscaling FPS number are with DLSS4 on RTX and FSR3.1 on Radeon?

Nevermind me but i would prefer this reviews with something like average settings based on game presets.
Not sure how useful it is to me how the game runs at ultra as neither me nor anyone else uses ultra.

45 FPS Pixel show with medium graphic cards on "medium" WHQD resolution. You will sell a lot of games with that performance.

Thanks for the review. thanks for the pictures.

The picture quality and water quality does not convince me. I assume those FPS values are with 100% of the graphic card utilisations. Considering 250 Watts only for the graphic card for such bad 45 fps in whqd. no thanks. I expect more. Or I expect only 70 Watts with that picture quality @WHQD@45fps@max settings.

Thanks W1zzard, just what I was looking for!

wow.... the 9070xt beats or on par with the 5080 in all 3 resolution loses to it when enabling rt... by 3fps... that is pretty amazing

What sucks is that the real-time rendered cutscenes are locked to 30 FPS
Don't get me wrong but it's still higher than average framerate for an average machine during real gaming.

The difference between RT and High settings is... 33% less fps...
Just that... Nothing else...
Disappointment...

Graphics look plain as hell in a lot of scenes.

it's real-time rendered, so if you machine doesn't get 30 FPS in the game, it won't get 30 FPS in the cutscenes either

the rx 7600 is the card losing the least performance at 4k, how?
because it loses perf in the 25-game test suite due to vram

How about sending the developers to Guantanamo prison for 3 months? The game can’t keep 60 FPS with midrange cards even with upscaling.

Btw 3070 performs clearly worse than 8gb 4060 ti. Is this a bug or the dirty Nvidia tricks with the drivers are getting dirtier?:nutkick:

i was just gonna say look at the 3090ti... how the perf tanks...

I had next to no good will to show towards this game to begin with, but anything that honestly barely scrapes by 60 fps on a 9800X3D/5090 system... haha.

I know and this is exactly why I pointed it out. It's fairly expensive to run into this 30 FPS limit in the first place.

My game is basically the same story. Barely 30 FPS on a 6700 XT (1440p Cinematic, no upscaling). And that's considering the game world is almost completely empty. Optimization will take a veeeeeeery long time.

"The production value is exceptionally high, evident not just in cutscenes but in the overall world design. Textures are sharp, and facial animations in cutscenes are some of the best in the industry, rivaling even Hellblade 2"

While I agree with most of the conclusion in relation to the graphics and presentation, that last part is just completely false. The facial animations are good, sometimes great, but not anywhere close to Hellblade 2's.

The graphics on the screen definitely don’t justify the hardware requirements. It’s a shame that games like RDR2 and KCD2 are the exception rather than the norm.

The worst part is that games even in this beta state still sell extremely well—like MW Wilds—so, from the studios perspective, there’s no problem; The money keeps piling up happily in the bank account.

This game honestly looks better overall in motion than either of those games.

The native w/ RT performance is so laughable on any card, that it wasn't even included in the test.

Hard pass.

AMD RT performance really good in this game...

Good time for AMD Radeon

I have come to the conclusion that most of the haters are people that only watch youtube videos and don't actually play the game.

That said, my wife has that "Ubisoft subscription thing" so she preloaded the game a couple days ago and got to play it last night after a driver update. From what I saw, very good looking game. The game almost justifies her upgrading her near 5 year old RX 6900XT. She can play at about 70FPS with 1080p balanced upscale and frame gen for quasi 4k with RT off. It still looks extremely good even with those trade offs. She said the combat system is like all the best ACs had an orgy and this is the baby they made.
