Gears of War: Reloaded is a celebration of one of gaming's most iconic franchises. Featuring 4K resolution, 120 FPS support, and the ultimate multiplayer experience with cross-progression and cross-play, across all platforms, this is the definitive way to experience the game that started it all. As we approach the 20th anniversary of Gears of War in 2026, we're reflecting on what this franchise means. It's about the stories we've told, the friendships we've built, and the unforgettable moments we've shared together. With Gears of War: Reloaded, we're opening that door to more players than ever.

A Modern Classic Goes Multiplatform
Originally released in 2006, Gears of War: Reloaded brings the full experience forward once again—enhanced for the latest hardware across multiple platforms, introducing the Gears of War franchise to a new generation of players. Developed by The Coalition in partnership with Sumo Interactive and Disbelief, Gears of War: Reloaded launches August 26, 2025, for $39.99 SRP on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5, and Steam, and arrives on day one with Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass. Play on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox PC with Xbox Play Anywhere. Gears of War: Reloaded includes the full breadth of content from the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, delivering the most complete version of the original game to date. Players will gain immediate access to all post-launch downloadable content at no additional cost—this includes the bonus Campaign act, all multiplayer maps and modes, and a full roster of classic characters and cosmetics unlockable through progression.

Built for Brotherhood
Gears of War: Reloaded is built for shared play—whether you're teaming up in split-screen or jumping online. The Campaign supports two-player co-op, and Versus Multiplayer allows up to 8 players. With cross-play across all platforms, you and your friends can squad up no matter where you play—no Microsoft account required. However, signing in with a Microsoft account unlocks full cross-platform functionality. It enables cross-progression, so your Campaign and multiplayer progress carries across devices. It also allows you to send invites and play with friends across platforms—like Xbox to PlayStation or Steam to Xbox.

Precision Performance on Every Platform
No matter where you play, Gears of War: Reloaded has been re-engineered to look and feel incredible. Players can expect:
  • 4K resolution
  • 60 FPS in Campaign
  • 120 FPS in Multiplayer
  • High Dynamic Range (HDR)
  • Dolby Vision & 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos
  • 7.1.4 3D Spatial Audio
  • Variable Refresh Rate (VRR)
  • 4K assets and remastered textures
  • Enhanced post-processing visual effects
  • Improved shadows and reflections
  • Super resolution with improved antialiasing
  • Zero loading screens during Campaign

From faster frame rates to deeper visual fidelity, every detail has been tuned to bring the original game into the present with clarity, smoothness, and immersion that matches the power of today's hardware. And wherever you play, we're meeting you there with the best version possible. Gears of War: Reloaded includes platform-specific features that make the most of the hardware you already own to deliver a world-class Gears of War experience—faithful to the original, optimized for today, and made for everyone.

For Xbox Fans, A Thank You
As a token of our gratitude to longtime fans, Gears of War: Reloaded will be a free upgrade for players who purchased the digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition prior to today's announcement.

Note: must have purchased a digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition prior to 16:00 UTC on May 5, 2025. A code for Gears of War: Reloaded will be delivered prior to launch of the game via a direct message to eligible Xbox accounts.

And for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members, Gears of War: Reloaded will be available as part of the Game Pass library at launch.

Seriously? 60 FPS limit in single player?
I expect a 0-day unlock mod but man...

Most likely talking about the console version which given that the consoles are weak by 2025 standards 4k60 sounds about right for the SP portion.

I believe ultimate edition has the ability to uncap the framerate to begin with.

It'll be interesting how much this is improved if at all the original pc release was a meh port.

how often can they make money off the same game? as often as consumers are willing to pay for it which sadly seems to be "till the end of time"

I don’t see it saying that 60fps is the limit, but rather the floor. That means the cheapest Xbox Series. I’d suspect if you have a more powerful console, then you’ll probably get to unlock more FPS. I mean, it also has Variable Refresh Rate as a feature. That tells me the FPS is not a lock but a guarantee.

Even then, more than 60FPS would be useless in my living room, and more than 75 would be useless on my monitor, as that’s the ceiling on both. And no, I don’t notice a difference over 60 anyway. I’ll take a smooth 60 over stuttery lows.

Guess it depends on if you ever owned the game before, and there’s possibly some PlayStation only folks that could take a chance on it. I played the first Gears probably 15 years ago, but I haven’t played the rest. I might add it to the wishlist and buy it when it’s discounted. I don’t suspect it will be full price long, though maybe the MP aspect will keep it up there.

It's not a 60fps limit you crybabies!! It's just an advertisement for consoles!

I was hoping for the entire trilogy, and maybe even Judgement, which is the only game that didn't get an Xbox One X enhancement (and I've never actually played this one).

Maybe they'll do it eventually.

I choose to cap at 60fps anyway, even though I have 120hz/180hz screens :D

Gears 2 especially could use a revamp, 3 a Judgment just a touch up.... Kinda shocked they are doing Gears 1 for a third time...

Maybe they want to guage interest before committing money to doing all 3

No mention of ultrawide support?

I had to adjust a lot of setting in the ini file to get the original PC game to run smooth. If I didn't, yeah it was a pretty crummy port.

I'd be interested to see how this turns out.

I was talking about the ultimate edition which while better than the OG was still a half assed port

first forza was released on PS5, now GoW, is Halo next?

xbox is dead
Yeah, I can’t see much reason to choose Xbox over PS anymore. I wonder if MS painted themselves in this corner by buying up all those game studios. They kinda can’t be exclusive anymore or they’ll get sued. Then again, even Sony is taking titles to timed PC launch.

Only Nintendo can still afford to offer it's games exclusively but even they are bumping prices to 80+ and you'd have to imagine given the hardware level thier games aren't as expensive to develop.

After Microsoft acquired Activision the writing was on the wall for then to switch to multiplatform. Sony is better at designing hardware anyways post PS3 lol.

problem is games like astrobot which won goty like everywhere will never come to PC, so sony still has like a handful of titles they can point to that are exclusive to ps5. i'm getting a ps6 whenever that comes out, mainly just to have access to the entire playstation history catalog through the online store.

One of their executives is quoted as saying PC ports are like a money printer. Therefore I expect everything will be timed exclusive moving forward. If not, it won't be a hard one to emulate.

A 3rd person shooter from 2006 with multiplayer. Getting polished and retaining multiplayer
I love it.

Wtf are they doing with Doom? Single player fps? Stop acting poor.

To be fair this was remastered once already in 2015 so it's a remaster of a remaster.... I guess we will get a remastered version every 9-10 years lol.

This remaster and the release timing is fairly savvy. Gears E-Day is coming out during the holiday season. I have Ultimate and it is not without the typical unreal engine issues. Smart to make the new version free for owners, as it'll get many of us to do a playthrough and get jazzed about E-DAY. Perfect way to introduce new players to the OG classic too. I hope they are going to do a Master Chief Collection for Gears because 2-3-and Judgement were not ported to PC. I like that they seem to be abandoning the craptastic storyline from 4-5 too. Not interested in angsty kids and the Disney Princess trope. Some grim dark Gears action where I can play co-op as my homies Marcus and Dom is exactly what this Franchise needs.

While getting the first Gears another update - these are relatively lackluster on PC anyway, improved assets and engine updates rule but all the headline features are for consoles. Resolution, FPS etc. However, what the fuck are they doing here with the first Gears? Wouldn't it be better to, like, get the ones missing from PC updated and on all platforms? Its Unreal Engine and a lot of shared assets. Gears 1, 4 and 5 are on PC but 2, 3 and Judgement are still only on Xbox.

Im happy to hear im getting a free upgrade, however, I want to know how the free upgrade is going to work since the last time they released this was 2015 and it was on the MS Store. I hope I can activate my free key on Steam.

Would be weird if the new remaster locked it to 60 when the last remaster had an uncapped framerate on PC as well as 4/5 on pc being uncapped. This is 100% targeting Playstation they are just releasing it on all platforms cuz $$$.

Gears 5 had a similar setup of split framerates on console.
