What are you playing?

Meanwhile, I'm somewhere around 52 or 53 hours in and still not finished with the second act (but I'm pretty sure I'm nearing it with everything that's occurring). That doesn't surprise me since I tend to soak in games I'm enjoying on my first playthrough. I'll definitely be getting triple digit hours out of this one, and I probably won't even 100% it either (I imagine many of the achievements are tied to the expert difficulty and I'm not doing that). The last RPG I got those sorts of hours out of was Dragon Quest XI, which I did 100% and got over 200 hours from.
Lol I never 100% any game. After all of these years, I still haven't beat Omega Weapon in FFVIII. There's a couple of super bosses in Clair Obscur that I have accepted I will never beat since I'm pretty bad at doing parries. I dodge okay but even that I'm not 100% at.

I just started my second New Game+. Looking forward to doing this again. I haven't played through a game consecutively like this since probably FFX.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Messing around in Dead or Alive 6 again... DOA was the main franchise I played throughout my childhood. Still sucks that the game engine is capped to 60FPS. But using Lossless Scaling can multiply it up to 20x easily

It's only been about a couple of weeks, but I'm already 80 hours into Resident Evil: Village. Slowly but surely working my way up to 100% achievements.

The only few things I have left are probably the worst:
1) Beat the entire game with a melee weapon... I'm sure it's doable with a knife, but I think I should get #2 first and then do it jedi-style with a lightsaber :D
2) Get an S rank on all maps in Mercenaries DLC (kinda like an arcade shooting gallery). Standard maps are easy, but hard ones are unforgiveable. Can't beat the Factory II for nearly 4 days... barely got B rank to unlock the next map and died immediately.
3) Get 777, 7777 or 77777 coins during playthrough (I'm sure there's a guide for it somewhere on the internet, otherwise I have no idea where even to start).

Change of pace with a silly game I got in a Humble Bundle and neglected to install until now. It is the most Seattle game imaginable; rain, raining fire, childish glee at raining and raining down fire.... It's unique, I'll give it that.

playing star wars jedi survivor... the combat feels unrefined... after playing god of war...

yeah, it's not the best. hang in there though, because around 60-70% in it has one of the most badass boss fights ever designed. it had me on my feet fucking yelling at my screen it was sooo good

on-topic: Just finished Nathan Drake collection, Uncharted 1,2,3 - now I am playing Singularity on GoG through Heroic Game Launcher (240 fps, 240hz maxed out in OLED), its fucking amazing. playing these older games at 1440p has been a blast lately.

after this I am playing Astrobot and Clair Obscur Expedition 33

are that action shooter arcade, has so much puzzles, just like the doom eternal ?
Not like DOOM Eternal or DOOM 2016 anymore. Things are much smoother and more fun to move around with many enemies fighting in bigger areas than previous games, puzzles are quick and easy. Now there is some story in the game and the focus is on big, fast battles. I like it better than D.E and D.2016

Been playing Forza Motorsport 4 on X360 several hours straight, gotta admit that Xbox has always had a great competitor to PS's Gran Turismo series.

Pre-Installed DOOM Dark Ages since it's on XPass, 33hrs to launch.

how does it play with a controller? it's my preferred method for everything, but eternal + controller was more struggle than fun, even though I have a very good one for shooters (thrustmaster eswap x pro)
I have played it exclusively on controllers so far, and it feels great to the point where I don't want to switch to mouse and keyboard inputs. All controls and inputs are integrated well so it isn't clunky and doesn't ask for excessive amounts of button combinations. I'd say it's well suited for controller use so far. I have tested it on my main controller (GameSir Nova Lite with hall-effect sticks) and my secondary (XBOX elite Series 2). Both are great, however I prefer the hall-effect sticks with finer sensitivity for snappy movement.

wait??? youre playing Doom with a controller??
i watched the gameplay trailers and was wondering why there was little shown of vertical gameplay.

now i know the answer.

Eternal was peak for m/k, no way i will play a Doom game with controller or any other fast paced shooter. i dont want the devs to help my aim, the struggle makes you feel alive cuz of the challenge. IMO

Same here, DOOM with a controller is a high heresy and the DOOM Slayer himself should visit everyone and punish who plays those games with such a device on a PC. 'its just my opinion ofc but still..'
I also have the game preloaded on game pass so its what I'm gonna play soon.

The verticalitty has almost been fully stripped out, unfortunately... Not sure why, or if its better or worse considering the new gameplay mechanics. None of the repetitive glory kills though, which is a welcome edition!

Now playing GT6 on PS3. It's insane how good this looks, beats many early PS4 games in visuals easily.

I booted up DOOM: The Dark Ages last night thinking it wasn't even going to run because I installed it on 870 QVO likely the worlds slowest SSD lulz and to my surprise it not only booted but ran fine. wtf is up with the min requirements saying it NEEDS a NVMe SSD? Oh well, I thought I was going to put it on a 970 EVO but then I remembered I put that disk in my HTPC as the boot disk.....doh! Since it is the only NVMe SSD I have and it's in use I bought a 4TB Acer GM7000 specifically for this game thinking it needed it.......oh well.....I'll move the game over to it once it arrives. Will be interesting to see if there is really any noticeable difference.

I also play on a controller. I also always play with an inverted Y-axis on the right stick. You mouse and keyboard elitists prolly just read that and be like

If anyone watched me play a first person shooter on a mouse and keyboard, you would be embarrassed for me.....I would be embarrassed for me . It is not a pretty sight! :fear: I honestly tried to make the switch when the Halo MCC came out and I doubt I spent more than 4 hours trying.....I was like.....this is a lost cause lol

The mech warrior type part (stage 3) felt pretty "gimmicky" and even more so since I know this has been something Hugo Martin has wanted to do for over a decade now. Felt more like he was checking something off his bucket list than being something we really needed in the DOOM universe. I much prefer the traditional combat rather than sloshing around a gazillion ton suit playing a rock 'em sock 'em robots mini game for each enemy.

Comparing to Eternal.....

I would say the shield saw has replaced the grenades. we could normally use a grenade to falter heavy demons to go in for blood punches and glory kills. but now the shield saw puts heavies into a falter state

shield dash in a way has replaced the meat hook since it brings about not only a way to damage/kill enemies but also to traverse across the maps which was the meat hooks main reason for it existing in Eternal

the toggling of walk and run is a good return of form from the original non 3D games

One quirk I noticed was it would not let me toggle HDR on in game.....or....it did, but then gave me an error message immediately saying HDR was not supported on my hardware (It totally is supported). Seems this is bugged out like how Resident Evil 4 Remake is. I cannot toggle HDR on in game unless it is already toggled on in Windows. Bit of an inconvenience and this is not how the previous ID TECH engine worked so that was a step backwards in my opinion.

They changed the name of "glory kill" to "executions" in my opinion. And these show up pretty frequent too, the purple ring that forms over enemies and shrinks to visualize the time remaining to use the move. It kinda feels like a lateral adjustment to me. They are not better or worse but is just another twist to the previous glory kill system.

I started using controllers for almost every game starting 5 years ago, I would struggle now if I had to go back to mouse+kb for any of the games I play. Yes, quite certainly "glory kills" are now "executions", but it is implemented better. The sequence is very fluid and you don't feel like the game animation just takes complete control of your character away from you for the entire duration of the animation like before. Previously, initiating a glory kill would trigger an animation, lock you out, and you wold have to watch that animation while nothing else is going on, regaining control shortly after. The executions now are just simpler and feel close to normal gameplay, rather than being a scripted, lengthy, detailed animation over and over again
