Logitech's Upcoming MX Master 4 Leaks

The first decent high-resolution images of Logitech's upcoming MX Master 4 mouse has leaked, courtesy of the EUIPO or European Union Intellectual Property Office, which is somewhat embarrassing when you consider that the EUIPO claims to protect your intellectual property. Anyhow, the mouse appears to have been given some major design updates, without straying too far from its predecessor. Most notably, it now has two buttons that cover the entire front of the mouse, which makes it look a lot cleaner than the MX Master 3s that has a bit of plastic on the right side of the right button. They also almost appear to be translucent, but that could just be the renders.

Gone are all the ridges on the thumb rest and read of the mouse and the thumb rest button appears to now be the entire side surface, rather than just the bottom of the thumb rest. It's unclear what the circle made up of dots is meant to symbolise though, but it appears that Logitech has come up with some new kind of functionality for the thumb rest button. A third thumb button has also been added in front of the previous two and the thumb scroll-wheel appears to be protruding rather than being slightly recessed as it is on the MX Master 3s. Finally there's an LED just behind the scroll-wheel lock button, which most likely is a battery/charge indicator. The MX Master 4 should be launching any time now, as the first leak was already a couple of weeks ago.

Looks ok, but since I just upgraded from MX 2's to MX 3's in mid-24, I'll probably stick with those, as this one doesn't seem to offer much over the 3's, unless of course, I've missed something

The author seems to be implying that EUIPO has 'leaked' the design, however the publication of the design is part of the registration process. In other words, it must be published when it's registered, otherwise no one would know how to avoid infringing the design registration.

If Logitech didn't want to have it published they should have waited longer to file, so that it didn't publish before the product release. It's certainly no fault of EUIPO.

Sure, but just like the FCC, you'd think they would have a confidentiality option, so the pics aren't release before the product has launched.

There are methods to delay registration - but they must be pursued by Logitech's agents. Otherwise EUIPO just follows the statutory process (as they are required to).

Or you know, they could have really low resolution pictures for the public to see, makes it all a whole lot less interesting than these nice pics.

Seems they have kept the general design and grip pattern. I don't think they are going to be convincing MX3 people to upgrade.

I have a MX master 3 for my work mouse will be interested in a review but doesn't look like they changed much based on the images.

I've still got the MX 2S and I intend to use it until it disintegrates completely. It's good to know that Logitech still makes replacement for it when its time comes.

My old G9 also suffered from coating peeling off and even my DSLR has a sticky coating at this point.

That island around scroll wheel on MX 3 had a purpose, to not click on left/right button if you scroll to far

The missus used to work for Microsoft and she packed away a web cam and a couple of laptop mice and we forgot about them. They where in zip-lock bags, yet ended up so sticky that they stuck to the bags they where in... Also had issues with my older G502 going weird in places. So many things with modern soft rubber coating seems to get nasty after a few years.

That part I get, but not the plastic on the right. Logitech seems to like that part on the right though, but the thin slit is a great collector of dead skin, dust and what not.

If you're implying that you'll hold off for deals on the 4, you'll have to wait much longer, because there won't be deals for it in the first 6 months at least. However, it's likely that there will be very good deals on the 3S.

Not necessarily, amazon starts discounting things pretty quickly.

So many things with modern soft rubber coating seems to get nasty after a few years.

MX Revolution didn't have this problem, but all the following ones did. Sold my MX3 Master because of this and also it's inconvenient to carry in a bag because of the size. The whole family switched to Mad Catz rat 8+ and there's no going back)

Logitech's soft-touch coatings have been pretty good the last decade or so. My issue with them is cheap switches. I don't know if they've changed, but they used to use Omron China switches good for about 2 years only. I retired multiple MX and G-series mice over those premature failures - both personal and at work.

What is with the shape of the primary buttons?

Every normal, uninjured person on earth has a longer middle finger than their index finger, so why is the left button longer than the right button? To make matters worse, the pivot point is even further forward on the right button, shortening it even more - so presumably the difference in actuation pressure and button feel is going to be wildly different between left-click and right-click on this weird asymmetrical design?

for me the electromagnetic flywheel is the most important thing on these, compared to the loud switches on the original MX 3 non-S variant, the rubber coating, or any other little quirk means really nothing, as there is no alternative available. The old mechanical flywheel was great, and the electromagnetic one is just amazing, no way could i live without it. I can scroll through the full TPU page in like 1 second, and stop anywhere with absolute precision..

Brother, you just pointed it out. (pun intended) A longer middle finger has no trouble reaching the smaller button that is further away.

However the soft-touch coating on my MX 3 bothers me a lot more.
