AMD Ryzen 9 9950X 16-core/32-thread processor powered by the "Zen 5" microarchitecture saw its price on Amazon Prime reduced to $434. This implies a 33% reduction over the chip's launch MSRP of $649. At this price, the chip ends up around $100 cheaper than the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K. Our testing shows that the 9950X beats the 285K in productivity workloads, and matches it in 4K Ultra HD gaming. The 9950X was AMD's flagship desktop processor until it was supplanted by the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, which sells for roughly $700 owing to its gaming performance that's second only to the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, while retaining productivity performance comparable to the 9950X. The Ryzen 9 9950X is a 16-core/32-thread part with two 8-core CCDs, each with 32 MB of on-die L3 cache. The processor ticks at 4.30 GHz base, with a maximum boost frequency of 5.70 GHz, and a TDP of 170 W.

EOL price cuts?

I think i saw certain mainboards have a notice for future processor preparation. Feel free to share which processors are these and when they will most likely be released for the AM5 platform.

I saw post about MSI refreshing their boards to Max series in coming days.

AMD needs to keep the pressure on with Price / Performance. They've made far slower market gains in the past due to missing this point. It seems they are all on the ball this time around. ZEN6 is looking interesting, I wonder if the price cuts is also paving the way to a ZEN6 launch?

Good good. I see the same applied for my 9950X3D. I'm saving more than 100 EUR. :)

Over the past few weeks at least I've seen 9950x hitting around the $400 mark on ebay.

The overall Economy in NA is shrinking. You can say why but one result will be a dramatic slowdown in luxury items purchase like PC parts. I expect prices to fall even further.

Probably a response to Intel price cuts. AMD doesn't want to see Intel gaining market share in the retail market.

Yeah, probably this.

Intel's P+E core architecture makes them pretty competitive for multithreaded workloads, and the 9950X really isn't a gaming chip - anyone with $500+ to spend on gaming will get an X3D from AMD. For productivity, Intel's 24-core offerings are outperforming the 9950X in performance/$ at the original $649 price, and AMD weren't going to sell a $649 9950X to gamers when they have a 9800X3D outperforming the 9950X for less money.

Very tempting IMO. Although given that I have a RyZen 7950X it still might not be worth it. I would love to have a 9950X though.

That's nice to see, albeit this leaves me with a sour taste after I paid $565 for it back in February.
But it is what it is, and given that the 285k was even more expensive back then, that was ok. Not like I'd be able to buy it for cheaper

To more competition and lower prices for us all! Thanks intel for finally coming up with a really nice CPU for productivity (along with a hefty price cut to it) to make AMD move a bit.

Yeah! X3D is seems the best gaming solution. But new Arrow lake, seems to be much better at multithreaded, and overall non-gaming performance wise. And are somewhat energy efficient, compared to all previous Intel "Core" genrerations.

But I wouldn't call the 9800X3D less money. Here it costs $615+. But yeah, compared to the $654+ 9950X this is indeed a bit cheaper. (Both are on "sale", with the "regular" price of $856+ for X3D, and $851+ for 16 core one)

They are super unpopular.
Unpopular compared to CPUs that make more sense for sheer gaming, yeah, sure.
But compared to other productivity-focused CPUs, from mindfactory's reports it only trails the 7900 (which is cheaper), while selling more than all other 12c+ CPU models.
Those CPUs were never that popular compared to other products that make more sense for gaming, that has been the case since the 3950x, but they are still the best option for "budget" productivity.
Cutting the price by over $200 should tell you something.
It already had a previous price cut back in november once the X3D models became a thing, this new one is likely to reflect intel's price cut as well.
I'd say that Intel is being the desperate one to try to get Arrow lake out of the shelves. Great for productivity, but most DIY builders only care about gaming.

Wow, AMD must be desperate to sell these. They are super unpopular. Cutting the price by over $200 should tell you something. It’s too late though, it was too expensive to begin with.

All paraphrased from the Intel price cut thread. That way people won’t have to make duplicate posts. You were all going to post the same thing, right? Right??

Inhale more copium. Everyone is buying X3D 16 core, so no wonder there's an overstock of these.

I knew some salty fan would come in here with whataboutisms, can't have an AMD thread without the Intel and Nvidia copium.
The price cuts are probably a response to Intel's price cuts, which was because they weren't selling well compared to Zen 4, Zen 5 and the X3D CPU's.
Price cuts all around are a good thing for us consumers.

I think it is more that x3D chips are more popular than they even calculate for, very niche audience needs the 16 cores.... x3D however appeals to much bigger population. really the pricing should probably have been reversed. luckily for us they didn't think of it that way, but they 100% could have charged a super premium for x3D cache chips once they realized how successful it was going to be with 5800x3d.

This is what they do. Super annoying when you buy something from them, only for them to start dropping the price within a couple of weeks.

Hang in there man!!!

Every single CPU I buy from them they drop the price within 2 weeks I kid you not lol. 5600X, 5900X, 5800X3D, 9900X..

And Zen 6 is coming, and you know the best CPU's come from the first run.. dammit!

Please do notice us whenever you buy a new cpu so that we can wait for the discounts that will follow :p

Can he start buying GPUs too?

The 5800X3D at least shot back up in price shortly after it's price drop lol.

The dual ccd 12 core cpu always tank from amd the only one that hung on for most of it's generation was the 3900X and that was due to the 3950X coming late and being 750 usd at launch.

I mean Ryzen has always been a good deal towards the end of it's generations I paid $460 for the 7950X3D a month before 9000 came out and stunk up the joint when it came to gaming.

Now Intel's i7 tank in price also lol imagine paying 400 for one just for it to tank under 300 usd lol good times.

Can he start buying GPUs too?

He got a good deal on his gpu I believe they never dropped below what he paid lol.

Haha, was waiting for these posts from the people that posted the same on the arrow lake thread but yeah, nothing yet :D

I mean it's just the thing we are sorely lacking on the gpu side, decent enough competition.

Although 5000X3D/7000X3D both dropped in price by now so competition isn't that worrisome apparently. Even the 9900X3D which tanked last gen with the 7900X3D is sticking strong surprisingly.

A lot of good 300-400 usd options right now though so AMD didn't have a ton of choice with the vanilla line the margins on their cpus gotta be ridiculous using an older node a really old IOD and the chiplets driving up volume my guess is even at 440 they are making significantly more than Intel is making on their 265k at 289.

Although the other key difference is Nvidia will not fumble on the gpu side the closest thing is the 50 series to a fumble but people are buying it like it's the goat.
