Apparently, the Firefox crowd needs to raise awareness of what exactly Firefox does. A high school student was doing his assignments using the internet browser, and got this note home from the teacher...
To the Parent(s)/Guardian(s) of [Redacted], Grade 11

This is to inform you [Redacted] has been assigned a(n) Detention.

Today in class [redacted] had a program launched called Foxfire.exe [sic]. I had told [redacted] to close the program and to resume work but he told me that it was just a different browser and that he was doing his work. I had given him two warnings but he insisted that it was just a 'better' browser and that he wasn't doing anything wrong. I had then issued his detention
The teacher who issued this letter is proof that Firefox simply needs to step up their advertising campaign. The teacher that issued this detention had no idea how to even spell the program name, let alone what it did. Granted, the teacher probably gave this detention out of safety protocol. After all, if you saw a foreign program running on a lot of expensive computers you didn't own, wouldn't you want it out of your systems?

i'd get a detention for using FF, because its the only way around the filters, and bypassing the filters is against the rules. but they got new filters that have like no workround

Firefox has been banned from our school because it was proven to be able to breech the pr0n filter... w17h 4 |177|3 h4x1n6.

My friends use putty "pipe" shells to get around the filters because they're too 1337 to Google "proxy" :p.

gotta love teachers...
what if i put opera?
would it be called a music player?
lol

thats not bad i got suspended for running a linux live distro  linux FTW! i told them to prove that i did it and they couldnt which got me in even more trouble lol

I did the same, I used a live CD... it was quite clever.

live cd is too obvious, they'll realize you're screwing with sometime, but firefox isn't too noticable, etc.

now i just run opera off my usb drive and no one even blinks at me funny

im tempted to partition it and put linux live on it :D

every computer on my school had multiple copies of FF on the hdds so that people could bypass the filters

Teachers should not be allowed to use resources they dont know how to use. Whether it's a PC, chemistry equipment, electrical equipment, or firearms. The school should fire the teacher, or command the teacher to adopt a lesson method he/she is actually competant in.

You can quote me on that.

Meh, I got suspended for sending a message to every single pc in my towns school system (about 500-600 PCs) using NetSend...lawl the principal walked into the classroom because they traced the pc it was from right to me. All the message said was "Hello"

Edit: I wish I was in high school again...

How can you even install them without administrator priviledges? Every PC we had was completely locked down so that you couldnt run executables.

I cant remember how it was done, but every computer was actually ghosted or something so that it didnt actually use its hard drive other than for the OS. No way of accessing the hard drive either, command prompt was also completely locked out. The way they install software is install it on the server and then every pc can access the software.

take a flash drive, install ff onto it, plug it into another comp, copy the files over and start ff..

yeah you can. we're talking .exe files right?

i mean you wouldn't even get icons if you couldn't run explorer.exe...

I h4xed myself to have admin privileges and created another account :P

set it to start from a .bat file

the best thing i ever did at school was this

set COMPUTERNAME=GOD
netsend * insert witty remark here
shutdown -s

and saved it as a .bat file on the server under the shortcut to halo

as for getting admin priv login as workstatioin only then go into novell and login under reg account gives you full admin privs

dont go to skl anyomore left a few months ago but man id get jailed or summit for doing linux in my skl if they didnt catch me id be okay but they allways make sure theres someone watching you while on a pc in my old skl

tbh firefox is probly safer and better than internet exploerer but its to customisable and not really school friendly

they even blocked google images and we had to constantly find proxy servers everyday it was ridiculous all we could do was go onto wikipedia for a laugh :shadedshu

LOL. That's funny. He should of used IE or Opera, they're both better than FF.

There are tutorials everywhere of how to do what I did...

basically one step better than the netuser approach.
