LaCie Finds a Use for Samsung's 1.3-inch HDDs

LaCie has gotten hold of Samsung's 1.3" HDDs, and by adding a rather convenient USB interface, they have created a truly pocket size HDD capable of storing up to 40GB of data. The LaCie Little Disk is available in both 30 and 40GB versions, costing $130 and $160 respectively, and comes with a 2 year guarantee.



The second Spinpoint A1-boasting product from LaCie is the USB Key Max, which is even smaller and more portable. These advantages do come at a cost though, as it is slower. The 30GB Orange Key Max costs $120 while the 40GB Black version has a price tag of $150.

Umm... cool in all but 120$ for a 30gb.. too much when I can get a drive for that much that has 4x more space.

Ah i can kind of see where your coming from now basard. Yea shadowfold and an external hard drive case only costs about £10~$15 in US prices. Might not be the same size but saves yourself about $60 or more

It's not really that much faster, and not as durable as a thumb drive, and they are way bulkier.... You'd think more people would be focusing on solid state... unless they just had a few hundred thousand 1.3'' drives laying around in their warehouse growing mold.

Probably the case here - it's amazing what kind of *new,* pointless, waste of R&D products a company can crap out when they have a ton of overstock and no one is willing to buy . . .

I think the prices for large capacity SSD drives are too high right now, so smaller HDDs are still being developed as an interim solution.

16GB USB 2.0 Sticks are ~€73 here.
32GB ones are ~€150.

I don't know about write/read speads tho. They are Corsair Voyagers.

16GB flash drives cost around $80 over here. 32GB cost $210+. Definitely more bang for the buck with the 1.3" HDDs.
