Microsoft Lists Programs That are Incompatible With Windows Vista SP1

Microsoft has published a list of programs that are currently incompatible with Windows Vista SP1 "Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista is an important update for Windows Vista. Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) contains many security, reliability, and feature updates for Windows Vista. A program may experience a loss of functionality after you install Windows Vista SP1. However, most programs will continue to work as expected after you install Windows Vista SP1."

I thought the same, from what was mentioned about the problem previously it sounded like nearly everything wouldn't work,only 12 items isn't too bad (granted there will be loads not mentioned there)

in addition to what you said i just hope that this is the entire list...it just doesn't add up, only 12?hmmm?

but if it is then this wonders compared to when vista was released,microsoft/vole has come a long way!!!!

Well you guys really think that from the thousands of programs available on the web only 12 won't work with Vista SP1? They wouldn't have the time to check every program now would they. Don't beleive everything you read on the net and start thinking

most of the products have updated their softwares so far for compatibility in vista, i said 'most' but there are many that still aren't ready yet...
microsoft is serious in this matter, remembering the 60+ apps/games which were incompatible after vista was released shows it's concern for compatibility, besides they want every1 to switch. so, this list just 'might' be true.

I think that many consumers in the know (or those that have been told) where holding off till sp1 till the os reached maturity and the first rush ironed it out. by posting this list they are covering thier bases and giving software developers enough time to catch up with the release schedal.

I love the way that most of those will actually be essential programs on the computers they're installed on. It's all very well there be only 12, but when those twelve are anti-virus and firewall applications things start to get quite serious!

I know TPU readers can easily switch to another solution, but what about people who are less knowledgeable? They think that there PCs are nicely protected, and then SP1 comes along and they're wide open to attack.

theyll obviously be working on getting things right before sp1 is officially released i think the problem is because of the new kernal.

That's why they higher firms and groups to do some of the testing of applications for them.

I'm confident that they've addressed most commonly used programs, and the ones they didn't were probably irrelevant to the general modern consumer. That is their target base. They are not required to sit there and try and sort some ancient Win 98 program to work on Vista.

Well i dont use any of them so it dont affect me.Most of them seem to be security related.

Not bad at all. By the time it comes out, the Antivirus and Internet Security Suites should be fine. BTW, Threatfire is probably the best thing out there and its free

I love how it's all security type applications that don't work.

I was going to wait until the first SP came out to even think about getting Vista. I guess I'm going to have to wait untill SP2 comes out....

12? Oh yeah? How about I dig up several of my CD-R's and DVD-R's loaded with thousands of shareware applications dating back to 1996 and onward. I bet I could find more than 12 incompatible applications. A whole lot more than 12. Heck, scratch that. I can go to download.com or softpedia.com and download any random number of latest applications and I bet a large chunk of em would not work right on Vista.

Considering that windows xp came out in 2001, I bet those programs wouldn't work on an xp machine. That Program Compatibility thing isn't a 100% fix for 1996 programs.
