i have the asus p5e, and would defenitly recommend it.
the only ithing to mention is, if you've got a large cpu cooler, there might be not enough space arround to install it (very massive northbrige / mobo cooler). my ac freezer 7 pro was quite difficult to fit on it

I think the ds4 is a great choice also, the only downfall is a lack of SATA ports, only 4. But other than that I heard it is a great OCer

i'd reccomend either an asus or gigabyte board. both have seem to prove themselves as strong overclockers.

i recommend the p5e x38 Asus board. I have heard great things about it, and its the board Ill get getting my self. Its basically exactly the same as the maximus formula, just the cooling is different.

The other difference is the missing second LAN. Also the BIOSes are not very mature (all the efforts from ASUS was targeted to fix the bugs of Maximus Formula) - I have Maximus Formula and can say that it is working well. But the colleagues from the hardware forum in my country rated Maximus lower than P5K and even like the worst X38 board. They are rated GB-X38-DQ6 higher and also some lanparty X38 board (I can't remember what exactly was the model).

yah people seem to like the DFI boards, I have always been an ASUS guy, guess they just really impressed me. But I do like gigabyte, I use them for all my office builds, I got a p35 giga board for 89 bucks and the thing rocks!

I had the x38 ds4 and I hated the bios for it. I found oc'ing very difficult and got the foxconn mars instead. Foxconn has a new x38 board I think its called the digital life. I know they aren't well known but it is made from ex-dfi techs and.its craftsmanship is superb.these foxconn boards oc very well and have been known to hit high fsb speeds. The bios is also much easier to understand. It also has a cmos reset button, so you don't have to move the cmos jumper for a bad oc. Board layout is excellent too.there is also a fan for nb heatsink for added cooling.

cool, well Im looking at x38's for myself right now.

I am reading some reviews and trying to find a good x38 board for me, has anyone got one, and what model and how high are you getting with your FSB, I have a q6600 and Im looking to get to the 450 range or higher - at 9 multi. I have plenty of cooling!

Im just geting worried because some of the reviews Im reading are saying they are topping out around 400, I can already do that on my 965. I NEED MORE!!!

sorry to thread jack but those guys putting reviews on the Foxconn X38 mobo are noobs. they have no idea what they are doing. also, i went to foxconn with an issue and they responded to me the very next day, so i dont buy word of the negative comments.
perhaps it is picky with the memory, but potential buyers should have already known before buying. you cant give a bad score just because they didnt do their homework when the memory doesnt work quite right, or when some noob thinks the motherboard is at fault when his monitor goes out.
