Ok, so i want to hit 3.8ghz for benching. i just don't know what a safe vcore is, i had it at 1.58 but the vdrop made it 1.52. I just don't know if it would be safe to run a higher vcore like say 1.65 for about 30min saying it will boot.

I can hit 3.6 with 1.44vcore (not bad imo) i just for benching would REALLy like to hit 20k.

If you're on air do not go over 1.5v on a Quad Core. I think on the Asus boards there is something called Load Line Calibration for the vDROOP enable/disable i think.......read...

What are your temps like? I definately would not be doing 1.65v on air unless it was for a really short amount of time. What kind of cooling are you using? Ambient temps?

Loadline Calibration "Enabled"

There will still be a little V-droop. Watch your other V's though, it may over-volt your memory a little.

If you've hit that kind of wall this soon you might have a nb issue. Trying giving your nb a little more voltage.

I run 3.6ghz at 1.33vcore and 1.47 nb voltage on a Swiftech H20-120 Compact, temps never go over 55C, I can also run stable at 3.8ghz at 1.4vcore and 1.51 nb voltage, I just don't like the temps, they load around 63C. I have my new WC setup on order right now (BIPIII, Dtek Fusion V2, Laing D5, Swiftech MicroRes). I can bench at 4.0ghz (superpi + 3dmark06) but again, I don't like the temps so I only bench at 3.8ghz for now.

I know: totally different board and with DDR3 too but it worked for me because i was able to stabilize my OC using this process.

It also addresses the "Load Line Calibration" issue, though i haven't tried it myself ...

Just benched at 4ghz, got 19393 in 3DMark06 then bluescreened as I was pasting the screenshot in MSPaint...here's a shot of the cpu at 4ghz

I can run 3.6 all day long on my current air cooler, possibly 3.8 (but that'd be pushing it) - I wouldn't dare start scratching at 4G until I go over to liquid

that one is on TEC but my q6700 surprised me tonight with this new xigmatek air cooler i got today. 4ghz on air. LOL.... this is the first air cooler i've bought in over 3 years. a very good one i might add.

4G on air is impressive, man - what kinda temps are those cores pulling?

at 3.6, under 4x100% load, they average out at 65C on my end . . . I'm certain this quad is capable of 4G, but I'm going liquid first . . . whenver I get around to buying the components. Thanfully, I already know what I need, I'm just a bit short on the loot.

There are people running 1.8v on phase cooling so as long as you can keep the temps down should be ok dunno if this would degrade the cpu or not.

All OCing degrades a CPU to some extent, but true, average temps play a big role in it.

TBH, though, for years I've always considered cooling as the silent form of OCing - two rigs, clocked exactly the same will perform similar with similar cooling solutions . . . but if you swap one rigs cooler for the next step up, you'll see that rigs performance go up a bit as well, also.

Those temps are with his Xigmatek cooler. With his TEC he was getting well below ambient on full load.

The correct model it's Xigmatek HDT-S1283 (HDT: Heatpipe Direct Touch) ... and it's a pretty good cooler, almost as any starter water solution ... and new HDT-S1284 will be out soon, we'll see =)
