Intel 45nm Nehalem CPU Die Pictured

Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in Shanghai, China, officially opens its doors from April 2nd to April 3rd. Topics set to be covered at IDF Shanghai include Netbook, Nettop, Bloomfield (Nehalem), solid-state drives, QuickAssist (accelerators), system-on-chip (Tolapai), and USB 3.0. The pictures below are from one of these topics, the new quad-core Nehalem CPU, or more specificly its core. Intel's future Nehalem will bring a totally new system architecture and a next-gen platform architecture. It will come in new socket, and will be the first processor to have up to 8 cores and integrated DDR3 memory controller. Expect more details tomorrow.

Wow. Thats really interesting. Very small. Very light. Most expensive material per g in the world! (Actually, perhaps some specialist military die is more expensive per gram).

P.S. I want that in my PC, not on a keychain! LOL

Err you are mistaken... a CPU's bare die without the socketing and stuff costs as much as how much refined silicon would cost-not much.

Looks pretty nice. Has intel ever thought of turning failed fabrications into keychains?

Its incredible that a little chip like that can probably generate a good 100+ watts of heat and perform a huge number of calculations per second. I would love to have one of those in my computer
