HELP!!!

I've read thread upon thread and I can't seem to find a solution to my problem. I opened an x850xt pe bios in rabit 1.7 and removed the vivo feature. I saved the file and then flashed it to my gto2. Rabit made the core in the bios a 423 and not 480. the card does not work. I boot from a PCI video card, run atiflash and my GTO2 does not show up...

HOW CAN I RE-FLASH IT IF I CAN't SEE IT???

any insight will help... theories?

Thanks

P.

another vid card

this might work..put an old vid card..or use onboard video and save the original bios to a floppy, then use the dos prompt to flash the gto back to the original bios..i am no expert on bios flashing, cuz i dont do it:eek: but i dont see why it wouldnt work

That's what I've been doing. The computer does not see my PCIe card so I can't flash it. Is there something I can do to locate the card?

use flashrom, NOT atiflash, man im really getting sick of saying that, so many ppl use atiflash when it sucks.

I used flashrom as well but it also doesn't show my PCIe adapter when I used the "-i" command. Part of the problem may be that the "-i" command in flashrom is for PCI adapters (at least that's what it says in the switch breakdown).

Are there any alternate programs that I could try (other than atiflash and winflash)???

Thanks

When I use ATIFLASH with the "-i -nopci" (lists all AGP and PCIe adapters and eliminates PCI adapters) options, it tells me that there is no adapter. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE??? I've got my card installed. Just a thought - I'm using a DFI NF4 Ultra... could there be something in the bios blocking ATIFLASH from seeing my GTO2?

dwax,

NO SUCCESS YET!!! However... I used Rabit and that is were my problems stem from (I think). Standard flashing without going too in depth is a "pretty" safe venture so I wouldn't want any person to be discouraged because of my mishap.

A note on Rabit - If you have an R480, make sure that your bios says the same in Rabit! When you open a X850XTPE bios, Rabit (1.7) will report R423 instead of R480. DO NOT SAVE THAT BIOS AND THEN USE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or you will be reading this thread looking for answers!

dont worry about your card not showing, i use a DFI SLI-D and my PCIE cards arent detected, doesnt stop the flasher from re-programming the EEPROM though :D

Ketxxx,

Could you walk me through what you do?

I have used flashrom but when I ask it to display the adapters in my computer, it only lists my PCI card. My PCI card is adapter 0, so I attempted to flash adapter 1, and I got "no adapter found". Well actually, I got an error message as well as "no adapter found". I then flashed to adapter 2, and got the same error message and "no adapter found".

Thanks

Nothing to walk through, i do the normal fanfair, boot with my floppy, type the flashrom -p -f 0 command followed by the filename and the flasher does the rest

Ketxxx,

This works even if flashrom can't see my adapter?

Try that. If it isn't working find somebody with EEPROM programmer, unsolder the card's EEPROM and reflash it on that external programmer. This is the only chance if the "blind" flash doesn't help.

Well Ladies and G's, I think I have tried everything!

Whenever I try to flash I get "Error: 0FL01" and "Adapter not found". On to possibly removing the EEPROM chip and flashing it the manual way

I live in Toronto, Canada. Does anyone know where I could use, rent, hire, an EEPROM writer? And where would I find the EEPROM on the card?

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!

It has been suggested in another forum board that I use a NON-ATI PCI card (I'm using an ATI 7000) and use the modified flashrom (I have not tried that yet). I will keep you updated.

That message is typical for wrong BIOS name.
Try once again with something like that:
Rename the BIOS to 1.bin

Use the following command line and "blindly flash":

flashrom -f -p 0 (it is zero not o) 1.bin

About the EEPROM read that: http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/vidcard/34

Success

It order to blindly flash, my computer would have to POST. I am running on a DFI NF4 and it stays in the boot power up cycle for quite some time. I have never let it stay there for 3 minutes or more, but maybe that's what it takes to force a POST and then I can attempt a blind flash.

I will also rename the bios file and see what that does

Thanks

Tried both renaming the*.bin file to 1.bin and blind flashing. Neither was able to FIND my PCIe card.

Here's a theory... Remember back in the day, in DOS and WIN3.1 when you couldn't see the CD-ROM whithout special drivers that you'd have to load in autoexec.bat... is it possible that my comp. is not loading the PCIe slot???

Is there a program that will show what I have pluged in the PCIe slot... possibly when I load with my PCI card?

In your motherboard bios. What are you choosing it to boot from PCI or PCI-E?

I have been thru this and im sorry to say it looks like you have a very nice paper wieght..can you RMA it?

I'm using the PCI when I have a second card in and PCIe when I'm attempting to blind flash.

Last night I took my card to a computer store that I buy parts from every now and then... I told them that I put a Zalman on the card so my warranty must be void (I didn't buy the card from them). He told me to bring it in anyway because he has a contact at ATI that may take a look at it... That has given me SOME hope, but my card is not ATI, it's a Sapphire. The only thing giving me hope now is that the ATI and Sapphire GTO bioses are interchangeable.

It's quite upsetting though - my card was 24 hour stable at 641 core and 636 mem (ATItool) WITHOUT VOLT MOD!

Hmm, you've got problems if your system won't post.

The only way to do this would be to stick it in a friends pc, and flash it there.

Where abouts do you live? If your in the UK i could flash it for ya.

Kick-ass card by the sounds of it. I hope it can be recovered

I know that you can't boot even from the PCI card when the PCIX card is installed. The reason most probably is that you have flashed wrong BIOS (AGP BIOS to your PCIX) card.
It will not boot on the other computer also. I have a friend which did the same thing on his X800PRO AGP (he flashed PCIX BIOS). The only solution was unsoldering of the EEPROM chip and re-programming it on external programmer. (You should clear somehow the EEPROM and then even empty it will allow you to boot)

Good luck

Did you even back up your BIOS before you did all of this?
