Right after Dell's sudden decision to get rid of its XPS gaming systems, Alienware quickly announced that it will bring out a relatively low-cost game PC with dual ATI graphics chips within the next two weeks. The $1,699 system will come with an ASUS high-end motherboard based on the AMD 790FX chipset, 4GB of DDR2 800MHz memory, a quad-core 9550 (2.2GHz) Phenom X4 processor, and an ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 graphics card, said Marc Diana, Alienware product marketing manager for desktops. He also added,
It's not your granddaddy's AMD system. We're talking top-of-the-line quad core.

i could prolly build that sys for 1/2 the price ;)

Nah, they give you a 900$ system, with a 600$ case, and 200$ worth of warranty and support.

Hehe, hmm Windows..expensive..bloated.
Alienware...expensive...;gasp; bloated.

They were cool once...yet far from it now.

i like their old cases :o

Low Cost Alienware, hah! This belongs in the nonsense category  No one here buys this 'stragety'.

low cost huh...? yea... right....
i have a system very similar to that and did not spend close to that much...but it is very low when compared to there fully tricked out desktops.

That is not low cost. That is lower perf for a slightly lower cost.

its low compared to 6k...

That's what I can't fathom about alienware.
If I were to buy the parts... locally (aka high price!) it'd be 2/3 the cost. Probably from newegg it'd be half cost or even less.

Should one pay such an inflated price just to have a pc called 'alienware' if inside it's still got the same mobo, ram, processor and graphics card one can buy anywhere? Makes no sense to me...

Further to that they sell a "top of the line" quad core pc with onboard sound?:shadedshu

Alienware is way too inflated...
Alienware recently began selling a gaming laptop, the Area-51 m17x, with two Nvidia GeForce 8800M GTX graphics chips and the Intel Core 2 Extreme processor, starting at about $3,200.

Cizmo is more realistic, after all what's inside the pc counts not the brand engraved outside on the case!

Alieware and sony are the Apple Inc.s of the Pc world... =/ (AKA - over priced with a pretty case)

lol 1700$ and you dont' even get the 9850. :shadedshu

i could prolly build that sys for 1/2 the price ;)

Not so sure about this... I checked the reseller prices in RO and the prices on TigerDirect and only the 4 components written in the AD are about $1000. No HDD, no ODD, no case, no OS...
