It would seem as though World of Warcraft finally has some competition when it comes to the very lucrative and addicting MMORPG enterprise. Since last Tuesday, over 400,000 MMORPG gamers have signed up for Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, nearly half of which come from North America. This is quite significant for a game that's been on "the development backburner" for quite some time now. Even more interesting is that this game is pay-to-play, much like Blizzard competitor World of Warcraft. Whether or not this "savage, sexy and brutal MMO(RPG)" will be a long-term contender is yet to be seen. Whether or not the very strong Age of Conan fanbase comes through with a World of Warcraft killer, only time will tell. We'll keep you posted.

That's amazing. I really wish I had money to get this. I'm so poor (college). :shadedshu

Move over WOW.

I was in all the betas for conan and it really is a great game, but I never bought it and I don't think I will. I'm really not much of an MMO player, I havn't honestly played one that I enjoyed since Diablo 2 and the whole pay to play model just drives me away even further because to justify what I'd be paying I'd have to REALLY put in some time and I just don't wanna do that. Pay to play is generally dead to me, it would have to be the perfect game, and just not gunna be in the MMO genre for me :p

I think conan is gunna be a big hit, I think its probably the best looking MMO out there and if your really into the whole lore of the conan universe, the role playing servers are just insane...just read the rules...

But really its a great game and I hope it gives wow a run for its money. Oh and the reason I signed up for the beta is because I knew it would be popular, and odds are those 400,000 players are gunna need some help upgrading their computers...and I've tested all the key cards from x800/6600 upward :P

HAHAHA! McLovin!

I'm getting a trial key this week, haven't had good experiences with MMO's as I always come in too late and I don't have anyone to play with.

:(

where can i get a trial key from? i am very interested.

I'm getting mine from a friend who is already playing, I presume he got his when he bought the game.

I'll try and find out for you.

Move over WOW.

Seeing that Blizz banned about 250K accounts that were either botters or Gold Sellers the same day may have helped. Lame attempt I guess to try and rid the fouler from their game to another. Coincidence???

I love it when they use the term "signed up" because immediately it's a sign of inflated numbers. I would imagine they're using people from the beta and the 1 week trial periods just to best WoW.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember WoW having a trail till a year or two after it was released. I also seem to remember Blizzard releasing their own "signed up" numbers after that trial period ended.

BTW: I'm not a WoW fanboy. Haven't payed for it and only played for 2 weeks and that was more than enough.

there are no trial keys or buddy keys atm. the buddy key system will be up in a couple weeks (also the buddy keys have been kept online so that we cant give it to ppl yet :p)

Either way, I've been offered a trial key. Didn't say when I'd get it, just "would I like one".

A bit of Competition never hurts, who knows we may see some price wars
From what i have heard the Age of Conan is supposed to be quite good :)
