Chip maker Intel was fined USD $25.4 million (£13m) by the Korea Fair Trade Commission on Tuesday for taking advantage from its dominant position in the microprocessor market against rival Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). The Commission fined Intel because it was offering discounts to Samsung Electronics Co. and Trigem Computer Inc. that were against the Korean antitrust rules. Intel had offered about $37 million in rebates to Samsung and Trigem for over two and a half years on the condition that they wouldn't buy from Advanced Micro, according to commission's statement. Intel said it was very unhappy with the ruling and will further review the South Korean commission's decision. "We are disappointed with the decision. We feel the commission has overlooked or ignored key evidence that demonstrates Intel's business practices have been fair and lawful," Intel's Asia Pacific regional spokesman Nick Jacobs said in a statement. "Once we've had a chance to review the findings in detail it is possible that Intel will request a further review and, if necessary, an appeal which will permit a court to review the case independently." Since 2005, Intel has also been hit by anti-trust cases in the US, Japan and Europe.

Intel, notty notty how could you? Poor AMD is already doing bad enough. At least it seems.
maybe AMD should sue Intel too.

You know, the concept of "exclusive provider" is all over the world, every country, every industry. As the concept of "discounting for volume".

Combine the two concepts... and intel was doing nothing more than what a hotel does, a wholesaler does, even retail points-cards. It's all driving at the same concept.

I hate when firms do that its not fair and intel still think they dident do enything wrong may me tru but american law dosent apply to other contries

ya it sucks too its no good for compitition whanna know what the worst part is ? 25m isnt anything to them they'll go to court wright a check and be done with it.
 
If a lot of people are talking about something, i mean this event, there had to be some part of reality in it.

So, the time was today. Now we have a proof.

US, Japan, Europe and now Korea. I don't think that they all have made wrong decisions about that.

The subjet is not discount i think. The problem here is the rebate. Yes, maybe the same thing but if you are making a discount which you usually don't that means there is something in it, isn't it?

Intel acquired a small chip company here in orange county and firing all. My friend is also a victim. They just want to eliminate every small company.

Well, if you do the math, Intel offering $37 million in rebates, and the fine was only $25 million, then Intel made out good. No company would offer $37 million in rebates unless they were going to make way more than that.....;)

Shame on you Intel for being such a fierce competitor! :rolleyes:

Heh, they got to be kidding. being so openly monopolistic and then suprized that they get finned for that is just ridiculous.

why they were fined for such low amount? multiply that by 10 and it might have been fair :)

Agree except with the number "10": it would be insufficient because, since Intel is so dominant and they still NEED to pull such cheap shots, they should be aggressively punished and 250 million wouldn't do that. It would be a start, though!

25 million: pathetic, IMO!
 
Lol at the $25.4m fine. Like Intel will give a crap about that. At least it means that there might be evidence for the european competition commission to look at. As we know from microsoft, they arent worried about upsetting anyone. Its a shame the US DoJ also isnt looking at this.
