Comcast Plans 100Mbit Internet Speed for Customers

Comcast Corporation says it is currently on track to offer speeds of over 100Mbps to 20 percent of its customers by the end of 2008. By the end of 2010, they hope to expand the product to most markets in the United States. Comcast Senior Vice President of Investor Relations, Marla Dooner, calls the speed 'very competitive' with Verizon FiOS.

Comast is the United State's second largest ISP and the largest cable television provider. Among cable operators, Comcast has been the most aggressive in deploying a wideband technology known as Docsis 3.0 in response to user demand for high definition video.

they didnt say which cities it would first be available in but im guessing Philadelphia (where their headquarters is) and the rest of the north east big cities they are in.

well i have comcast and currently pay almost 60 bucks a month for 16 down and 2 up. i cant imagine them asking for like 200 per month for 100mbits.

100mbs aint so good when you can only download so many bites in a certain period of time. I read a week or so ago that Comcast decided to put a cap on download amounts because people were downloading more than Comcast thought they should be so now there is new policy.

Well I have comcast, and they claim 8mb down and 1mb up and I pay $40 a month, I get bursts more like 30mb down and 2mb up.

I think I'm just going to start web hosting and grab a set of T1's or something
Being all that uses is upload, I'll have plenty of download, and garunteed, not this burst crap, and lines down.

*shove it comcast, you can sell any speed you want, burst numbers don't mean jack when you limit us*

Online gaming doesn't need such massive download, most bottleneck on upload and ping speeds.
Even 1.5mbps DSL is plenty more than fast enough for any online game.

I would be willing to guarantee that the first areas serviced by this plan will be areas with Verizon's competing FIOS available or soon to be available. Comcast wouldn't be doing it to give customers a better deal, its only in Comcast's best interests. They have shown that they really don't care about customers, only the bottom line and shareholders.

Verizon offers better service and customer service regardless of what speeds Comcast promises.

the people that are actually going to use the speed wouldn't be able to and most people living in an urban area will most likely be capped off at everything to speeds of uploading at 30 kbps..
