i doubt that bta not to be rude as HL2 EP2 looks good, valve have a goal playable on a wide range. This means that the game has to run on olderhardware also. Remember DX7 support was just dropped and from reports you can hack a Geforce4 MX to run it anyway so its still there just not a viable option lol. I can't see EP3 looking the best to be honest, maybe comparable to COD4 at best. Valve's current trend is more high rez textures than alot of shaders and polygons

I hope they put _some_ modern shader effects in the game...
'cause HL2 has none of that. It's a shame they didn't upgrade the engine with EP2.

I really wish they would send you back to the half life 1 world but with DX 10 graphics... none of this Orwellian dis-utopia nonesense - something more aligned with the original.

I love the graphics of the HL2 series, especially EP2. It actually looks real sometimes. High res textures and tons of polygons is the way to go IMO. Too many games make everything look plastic by making everything shiny and low res, overusing shaders to cover everything up. You can't make skin look anywhere near realistic without good textures, and making it so shiny that it looks like it's covered in oil doesn't help. Asphalt isn't shiny and perfectly smooth and uniform, so why does it look like that in so many games? The sun isn't blindingly bright, so why make it that way? People need to step outside and see just how much shaders are overused these days. The Source engine is actually very, very advanced in terms of shaders, they're just not overused so it's harder to notice.

But anyway, I'm really looking forward to EP3, I loved EP1 and 2, and they get so much better with every episode.

I'm re-playing episide 2 right now, and I'm still awfully impressed. The physics, graphics, sound, voice-acting, character models are all top-notch. This is one of the very few games where I actually feel for the characters. The ending of episode two deffinitely let out a couple tears. If you listen to the commentary in game for the final scene, you can easily tell that the actors and people involved making this game put thier heart into it and it shows beautifully. I guess episode three won't be shown at E3 this year...

Team Fortress is good, but its only a revamp of an old idea, Portal was something new, fresh, and didn't come off boring, albeit ridiculously short.

portal was new but the technology was not the game prey should have the credit for going through portals and being able to transfer from one place to another thats where i think valve got there idea from honestly but i do love the HL series and cannot wait for 3 i kinda hope the gun doesnt make it in the game i dont think i would like it too much ha.

This is true... the original "Portal" was created in the early 90's (I think) as a project for a university IT project. Valve saw the game, which was released as freeware, and hired them to make Portal on the Source engine.

ID software was working on prey in the early 90's using the same portal like technology the game got canned until 2006 which was still in development before Narbacular Drop was released. which was the kids project game for school.

im not saying these kids didn't make portal possible they just weren't the first ones with the technology to do it i still give portal the credit of making it fun because in prey you didnt control the portals really, there were just already there to set up the puzzles i do find it funny that the portals were blue and orange in prey also.
