Pentium developer Intel, today slashed the prices of several Core 2 Duo processors, and most notably has slashed the price of its 65nm Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU. The price of Core 2 Quad Q6600 drops 14%, from $224 to $193 in 1000 units tray quantity. In addition to making its most popular quad-core CPU cheaper, Intel has also slashed the prices of three 45nm dual-core Core 2 Duos. The Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 is now 31% cheaper, from $266 to $183. Intel's Core 2 Duo E8400 and E7200 CPUs are now 11% and 15% cheaper, fixed at $163 and $113 respectively.

Wow. That's a killer deal on the E8500.

I was wondering how I got a Q6600 for $199 on the weekend :p...

The q6600 has the new price here in the UK, but I havent seen a drop for the wolfdales yet. Price drop just in time for me to buy. :D

Too much stock, too little time (before Nehalem CPUs, E8600, Q9400, Q9650). Q6600 is still an awesome chip.

I'm waiting on the Q9550 to be slashed! But, A Quad under $200... WOW...

nice nice... Q6600's even the worst batches still manage 3GHz, so <$200 for a 3GHz quad core = winnnnnnner

i will quote myself on this one..........

as of now... i would say it's in everyones best interest to sell as much as they can and get by with minimalistic systems until nehalem comes out. only ram, mobo and cpu will need to be changed so you can go ahead and get whatever video card you want, such as the 4870 or 4870x2 or be it an nvidia card if you want. this may sound crazy but think about it... by time nehalem comes out to retail locations, what we all have now will be only worth 1/2 of what it's worth now. that means things like my e8500 will only be worth $160 or so.....and q9450 will be about $200 used on a good day. this has happened many times over in the past but you dont have to take my word for it, history repeats itself.

^^^ i said that a week ago.

AMD needs to drop the price on those tri-cores quick, because right now they ain't worth the money they're charging (compared to those E8400's and E7200's).

Wow, I'm really tempted to pick up another Q6600. At under $200, they are a steal. Even at stock speeds, they will play anything out there.

i got my mind made up!

Haha, they came a little late on this deal, my nearby computer lowered the prices on the Q6600 to $195 weeks ago.

Yay for me!(if you see my thread in general hardware you will know why)

The E8400, E8500 are the E0 stepping?
