VIA Quits Motherboard Chipset Business

Hmm, thats an interesting move, but I think a wise one. I have had both good and bad experiences with VIA. The KT400 was crap IMO, though I am posting from a machine sporting it. The KT600 was MUCH better, one of the best chipsets of it's day.

afiak, the via 8237 and 8237R chipsets were very popular for standard use a few years ago (on the intel side), and i was fond of motherboards which had these hassle free chipsets, i saw this chipset last through two socket changes (er socket old something, socket 7, socket 478) had quite a few of motherboards.
i hope this move works out for them for the better, theres no point continuing business in a dwindling and dominated segment.

i've always had problems with them, mostly driver and bios related. its not always vias fault, but many mobo manufs cheaped out on the via boards.
That could be true. I've always been fairly picky about what I buy even for inexpensive mobos. The less hardware problems = the less support on a machine I've built.
