Furmark has the same performance as a HD3850 ( http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=40981 )

3DMark06 run doesn't complete, black screen and reboots after the first test (Return to Proxycon)

Any one know what could be causing this?

hmmmm dont know much about benchmarking man, but you should defanetly overclock that CPU of yourse to gain more performance out of it, not for games but for benchmarking and everyday use, you would notice a big difference, but about the low scores, not quite sure, maybe your car is being bottlenecked but maybe someone else would, anyways goodluck finding how, later

Yeh, I normally run the Q6600 at 3.0GHz, just reset everything to stock when I got my 4870X2. Doesn't explain the poor Furmark and 3DMark crashes though.

Found this result for comparision:
Furmark v1.4 Fullscreen

FPS Avg:98

You have to update your motherboard's BIOS to the latest one and install latest drivers. You should also overclock your CPU to about 3,2GHz.

Done, done and done. OC the CPU made no difference, drivers and the BIOS were already the latest. Thanks for the input though

Did you know that Furmark test is OpenGL? Maybe drivers not optimized for OpenGL yet.

What temps are you getting during furmark and 3dmark? Sounds like it could be that, if everything is running stock

The other result I posted was also on a 4870X2, yet I got half the score. Of a greater concern is crash in 3DMark06

Edit: Just checked the temps after five minutes of Furmark - 87 degrees C. Is this in the correct range for this card?

Any chance my PSU could be causing this? 12V rail is 12.15v idle, 12.18v whilst Furmark is running. (DMM) This doesn't seem to high, just checking

furmark doesn't do crossfire. Run something like 3dmark06 and vantage.

Even so, I get about half the score of someone else with a Q6600 and a 4870X2. 3DMark06 won't complete (reboots after first test)

Doesn't matter now, RMAing the card - it started artifacting in games

8.8 drivers sucks. use the 8.7

Tried both (and the one on the disk supplied), almost identical results

Man, get rid of those fucking Catalyst 8.8 drivers and install Catalyst 8.7 drivers. Using Catalyst 8.7 I've scored 6590 points, but when using Catalyst 8.8 drivers I've scored only 3490 points. AMD is hiding something for sure, because after changing filename to Fur.exe score went back to 6590 points. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with those unstable Power Color Radeon HD 4870 PCS+ cards. Check this out:

Good catch - Changing the filename to F.exe gives me:

FurMark v1.4.0 Fullscreen Score.
[ SCORE: 5785 o3Marks ]
- FPS Min: 86
- FPS Max: 131
- FPS Avg: 97
- Time: 60000 ms
- Res: 1280x1024 / MSAA: 0X
- Renderer: ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2

- CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
- CPU Speed: 2405 MHz
- OS: Windows Vista ver.6.0 build 6001 [Service Pack 1]

8.7 drivers didn't help though, pretty much the same as the 8.8. Still RMAing it due to the artifacting

indiana jones enjoys finding artifacts.

this is weird that ATI/AMD seems to be hiding something in the drivers. didnt we catch nvidia doing this before?

care to explain?

there was a thing in a version of the nvidia drivers around the time that the 8800gt's came out that showed a HUGE difference in crysis when you renamed the driver to something else. it was here on TPU. im looking for it.

The temp is right a friend on here named rossiski had the same thing with temps, how ever he did find a fix for his you have to change 3 profiles to get better fan speeds.

Drop him a IM i'm sure he would not mind. I'll drop him a e-mail for you too as i'm not to sure how often he be checking these forums as seen he has his system pretty much sorted out now..

You can modify your card's BIOS with RBE to change fan speed. If your card'll be still artifacting, then you should RMA it.

Furmark has been known to kill the new HD4800 series because it pushes these cards beyond what normal gaming or benching would. So AMD is using the newer drivers to limit the card's power when running furmark.exe.

FR@NK, but can you explain why the hell Catalyst 8.8 drivers cause performace drop in FurMark of 100%? I's more than very high performance drop . I understand that they don't want people to RMA cards killed by FurMark but with this limitation cards use only 50% of their full potential :(.
