Here's the third GeForce 9800 GTX+ non-reference model in the works. Zotac has prepared a graphics card based on the GeForce 9800 GTX+ GPU with its own PCB design. As for cooling, they've employed the expertise of Arctic Cooling, with an Accelero Twin Turbo cooler for the GPU. Zotac may have worked on aspects related to the card's power design and memory, keeping in mind, that the 9800 GTX+ is a 55nm GPU which might draw lower power than its 65nm counterpart, keeping clock speeds constant. It uses clock speeds of 740/1836/2200 MHz (core/shader/memory). Notable PCB features include:
  • 0.8 ns GDDR3 memory chips made by Samsung
  • A 4+2 phase power design
  • Power input reduced to a single 6+2 pin PCI-E power connector

Only one 8-pin connection required? I like that!

Nice, gives me an idea what my card would look like with Twin Turbo.

It's a notch above HD 4850, comes with just a single power input, a 55nm GPU (cooler, OC's better). I say let them come in. There's always room for a new model based on a new core (G92b).

9800 GTX+ is close to the 4850, those with the older 9800 GTX need not bother since the clock difference is so small and easy to clock to. ;)

Not if you live outside of the US where the 9800GTX is more expensive by a fair bit, example in Australia the 9800GTX costs as much as a 4870.

Why does people love generalizing so much or are so short sighted with their comments? In the US and most of Europe, at least in big etailers, the 9800GTX+ costs around the same than the HD4850 and considering it's similarly priced in the 2 greater markets in the world, with more than 75% global sales in them, there's no place for comments as yours or Shadowfold's.

Both cards are similarly priced in the mayority of the world and performance is a give or take, depending on the game. Aditionally Nvidia has CUDA and PhysX right now, something that MANY (I include myself) would choose over any little performance advantage. Add to that when overclocked performance goes to Nvidia. The truth is, that as things are, the 9800gtx+ is as appealing if not much more than the HD4850 so there is a place for both in the market.

Everything else, is pure fanboism.

PD: Any price argument goes to waste, when you consider my point of PhysX and look at Shadowfold's specs. HD4850+8400GS is quite more $ than the 9800GTX+ everywhere.

EDIT: After a quick search through many Australian etailers that came up googling, I must say that what you said is simply FALSE. Cheaper HD4850 I could find was $210 aussies, with average being $240. The cheapest GTX+ was $220, with average around $245, BUT cheapest HD4870 I could find was $315. So no, no, no, mate.

Here we go again. I think we're through with that price debate many times over. Results: Inconclusive.

Yeah, and more performance in Physx enabled games as well, due to the fact that the 9800GTX+ would have to do both the Physx processing and rendering, whereas Shadowfold's setup, the 4850 only does the rendering. So that point is moot really.

Not really. Most games are bottlenecked by eithr ROPs when on high settings and resolution or by the texture units rather than by SPs. Also the GS has 29 GFLOps of processing power, the GTX+ has 470GFlops and aditionally has a fix to how the SPs work so it NOW can more often times use the "third" unit, which means 705 GFlops.

If the total power of a GS was used in a game:

470 - 29 = 441

441/470*100 = 94%

Basically if you were having 30fps you would get 28fps (60fps vs. 56fps) IN THE WORST CASE SCENARIO, which would probably never happen, cos as I said games are not bottlenecked by the shaders nowadays.

Aditionally if the game used twice the power of the GS, the HD4850 would lag badly whereas the GTX+ would get 27fps, funny eh?

If some of the extra SPs can effectively be used, up to those 705 things get even better for the GTX+.

Basically the "you would lose performance" is a myth, mostly spread by Ati fans.

No. it's not a myth. I tested it back to back on my own rig. Using 1 8800GT for both Physx and rendering was noticeably slower than using 1 for rendering, and another for Physx while playing GRAW2 at the highest Physx setting.

Which card was the second one? I didn't notice a difference in UT3 and Warmonger with only my 8800GT versus my 8800GT + a 8400GS borrowed from my uncle. Couldn't it be that you used a faster card for physics than a GS and that was the reason you obtained better performance?

Aditionally a GT has the same amount of ROPs but less SPs, so the GTX+ has much (compared to what 8400GS has) more "spare" processing power than a GT.

PD: Maybe it was just me, but GRAW 2 demo run like crap. It was an unnoptimiced POS that I personally wouldn't use as proof of anything, but mediocrity. LOL sorry, I had a really bad experience with it. Didn't try it with PhysX enabled though.

I want two gtx+. Lets see you guys top that in performance for $380 (shipping included). That's right, it CAN'T be done. So stfu. GTX+ is an excellent choice if you can't put out for the 260 or 4870.

And framerate drop is negligible from physx accel if you're already getting decent fps. If you're getting such low fps that you need those extra 5 back from the physx, then you need more power anyway.

edit (for guy below :)): I want two of these, specifically, if they don't charge an arm and a leg for the cooler.

wow this thread has gotten off topic is becoming a useless argument.:ohwell: but i agree STFU :nutkick:

The 9800GTX+ wouldn't have problems running physX i can run it on my 8800GT without having noticeable frame rate drops

Did you also notice a missing 6-pin power input? Those are rudimentary parts of the PCB that give the manufacturer the future benefit of adding to the same PCB to enable new features.
