from this website which should i get consumer or corporate?
---
and then intel website didn't list the chipset file you mentioned but a newer one, yet i downloaded this:
intel_chipset_10.1.18-[Guru3D.com].zip from https://www.guru3d.com/files-get/intel-chipset-software-installation-10-1-1-8-whql-download,1.html
is this the one? but is from 2015 according to the files inside not 2018.

windows update has them as optional updates, but the dates are backdated to appear older than they are so that any user installed drivers will have priority
I went for update the intel chipset driver using windows update but there were no optional updates.
what shows on the pictures here are the last update for my intel wifi6 ax200 I thought 2 days ago it updated the chipset but no.

Consumer, of course. The HM65 is a mid-range consumer-grade 2nd gen Intel Core platform mobile chipset. It is around 12 years old now, so if you're searching for updates in pursuit of extra performance, you won't find any - and by tampering with such low-level drivers, you are potentially inviting trouble that you didn't have before. Not sure it's wise to be messing with that unless you are absolutely sure of what you are doing (and by making this thread to ask, you're not).

BTW - that AX200 is a very recent WiFi adapter. It wasn't included with any laptop of such advanced age, because these are so old they predate even Wi-Fi 5. Did you replace the WiFi card on the laptop? If so, its driver is the only thing you need to upgrade. Don't touch the rest.

yea you're right I won't mess with these drivers, I just wanted to see if i got a boost on games like grid2 and csgo.
I'm good with the intel from 2015 that is there, tho can't remember how it got there since the asus page for my laptop doesn't even list win10 drivers.

yea I replaced the wifi/bluetooth card that was on my laptop it was very slow. the one now is probably wifi6 not wifi6e.

Here you go. Just let the Intel's tools detect what you need. :) It's idiot proof, you can't install the wrong things.

Chipset INF Utility
Intel® Driver & Support Assistant

WARNING: the INF Utility has Intel malware/spyware in the backpack that sends constant data to Intel & slows down your machine!!! Remove the malware after installation in the software manager. The thing you need to remove is called "Intel (R) Computing Improvement Program".

There is nothing you can do to such an old system that will improve its performance in games. I downloaded its user manual and read its specs just to be sure, this was a low-cost laptop that came with a GT 610M and either a middle of the pack i5 or i7 processor. Anyway, assuming you have the strongest configuration I could find, it's just not a gaming laptop, and even if it had high-end specs back then, it wouldn't be surprising to see it having a very, very bad time with new games.

This system, like your Phenom II desktop, is just not capable of doing the things that you want it to do. The CPU on this is certainly faster, but that graphics card is incredibly awful.

What? You have a funny definition of malware. There's no malware in any of Intel's driver software. Don't confuse the OP more than they are already confused, that's super unhelpful.

Well, install it & see what happens. ;) If it steals your data and cripples your perfomance then it's not something desirable to have on your system.
When it started (randomly) doing it's "thing" on my machine it used up to 50% of my CPU performance. And stuff you do get's laggy, no wonder.

Dude, we're talking about a 12 year old platform which was discontinued at least 9 years ago, and even then it's an optional, opt-in telemetry engine which would collect the driver versions and system specs, maybe a couple of anonymized crash logs at best, no different from what you have on the Nvidia or AMD graphics driver. In any case, it simply isn't malware, if this processor is laggy for any reason, it's because it's a 12 year old low end processor. The high background consumption you may have observed back then is more than likely due to Windows Update or the .NET framework NGEN optimizer which runs on the background, but I can assure you it's got nothing to do with the Intel chipset driver.

Even Alex Jones would be jealous of the sheer size of the tin foil hat necessary to think Intel bundles real-time system monitoring malware which will aggressively consume CPU cycles with their chipset drivers, and be interested in said data twelve years later.

Jeez, man... anyway, thread ran its course. There's nothing more for me to add, so good luck from now on.

I think all the recent windows builds have the necessary drivers for old choosers. Am I right?

@Dr. Dro Well, I wouldn't be so salty about it if you could unselect the spyware during installation, but guess what, there is nothing to be seen. ZERO info, no checkbox. ;) And having to do your own investigation into finding out what is using half of your CPU power randomly, where the system lag is comming from just to find out it's from a Intel Software I didn't install intentionally, that's just disgusting.

I am glad I am tech savvy enough to find the cause and where it came from (couldn't even find useful info online), but the average joe just complains about his laggy rig & in the worst case just buys a new computer because of the crazy random lag.

I used a similar app for this computer already for my asus laptop the computer we're talking about, not my phenom so don't mention it.
although is from asus not intel, I might give this app you mentioned a try mars guys after researching or anyway in a little bit like in 1 or 2 days.

I also used a similar app for my lenovo i7 core gen3 csgo still sucks on it but it has 20-30% better performance than my asus. I'm mentioning games as bench test apps but my goal with the lenovo was to use it for photoshop for a digital business and i did put 32GB of ram at 1600mhz to make it usable.

I'm low on cash atm owe more than I got. my ps4 is what I got it going with games

Probably because they're already installed. if theres no yellow triangle of doom, theres no missing driver.

Windows 11's updater found chipset drivers for my 1155 systems, so it's rarely missing much - usually third party drivers for USB 3, SATA and wifi.

Drivers included with windows are dated really old to make sure user drivers are preferred - windows 11 can find drivers like that designed for an older OS (like 8.1) and install them, and keep the old date.
Something like a GPU driver or your wifi driver with current, new udpates will have the actual release date

The thing with board vendor "update apps" is that they won't put out updated drivers after around 3-5 years. So it's no wonder it isn't finding anything. ;)

If you want up-to-date drivers use the Intel apps I linked above. Make a backup before installing drivers in case there is a imcompatibility. And do not install drivers from Windows update, they are old or even wrong & can lead to your PC misbehaving or even boot crashing.

That's not true, windows update deliberate alters the date on the drivers to appear older than they truly are

I had to adjust my monitors driver inf file to add amd64 code recognition back in 2014/15 so the driver would install on W7 64 and not use the stock generic monitor driver...
And thats why it exists

The blog above explains that all windows drivers are dated June 21, 2006, while intel uses 1968

The only reason any other drive was not used, is because it was unsigned or not fully supported - VGA monitors for example had no EDID detection, so it'd never install a vendor driver without manual intervention (and plenty of devices had trouble with that, especially when brands re-named hardware like the killer nics)

Oh and driver uninstallers like DDU can delete the stock driver, forcing MS to grab *something* from windows update - being unable to get the original generic again, you end up with a confused OS that has no old generic driver dates to compare to.
