1070 fans not spinning down

I'm having an issue with my 1070 recently. When I play a game, and the card ramps up the fans due to the temperature increase, they never spin down again and I have to shut down my PC in order to get them to stop. Googling suggests this is a known issue since at least 2016, so it seems as if nVIDIA haven't bothered to fix it.

Use afterburner to set fan profiles, easiest solution compared to trying to do bios mods.

I honestly have no idea how to do that. I installed Afterburner and I tried to set it so Afterburner would control the fans intelligently, but it just ramped up the fan speed and it won't spin down like before. I didn't even start a game.

EDIT: Even though the fans are spinning so fast I can hear them, GPU-Z thinks they're running at 0%/RPM.

What are your idle temps for the 1070 ?

30c, or thereabouts. It seems that all Afterburner is doing is making the fans run high all the time instead of when the card gets hot.

So did you try a manual setting the fan try 50% and see if the noise/temps are ok in your case.

If you continue having the issue and no tools help especially after coaching, send the card back for a different Brand.

It's only started happening recently, within the last week or so. So I think it's probably a driver issue. I'll wait to see if it gets sorted in a future update. I bought the card from W1zz last year, so I can't make a warranty claim. I'll have to talk about him if it becomes a permanent problem.
