I have been trying to run the clean uninstall utility, followed by installing the beta drivers, but for some reason, the whole system freezes using multi-stream transport + UHD display tech, and I wind up needing to roll back my drivers to 14.4..Anyone else having issues with eyefinity?

Can anyone confirm if 14.6 beta yields better performance in Watch Dogs on older single GPUs, such as the HD 7000 series?

@The Mac,
I've tried DDU twice now, I don't like it. It leads you to believe it's more thorough, but it's not. I answered yes to all the prompts recommending Safe Mode and let it automatically take me there. I also clicked the recommended Clean and Reboot button. The result was W7 installed it's own drivers right after it booted back into desktop.

I then did an AMD Analyse check with Driver Sweeper, and sure enough there were 3 AMD entries. I then used AMD's Clean Uninstall utility followed by an AMD Clean with Driver Sweeper and rebooted, then checked with it's AMD Analyse feature again and no AMD entries, no W7 trying to install drivers.

The results speak for themselves:

Using AMD Clean Uninstall followed by Driver Sweeper is how I've been preparing to install new drivers for some time, and I've never had it not work. I will now be uninstalling DDU.

Not as of yet, my system is still running eyefinity (3 x 1920x1080p displays) on my Trio of R9 290X cards. I have played a bit on them with some Far Cry 3 Yesterday but noticed no issues but that was only for an hour and a bit of LoL. Have not tried BF4 or Watch Dogs yet on PC so I cannot confirm any issues plus ive been at work alot so its not been on enough. Ill test it out a bit more when I get off today to see if I have any issues with eyefinity being enabled.

Windows 8.1, that's a problem. Everyone knows that, AMD Uninstall Utility crashing W8. On Windows 7 works fine.

Bootup system in safe mode with network support, download Display Driver Uninstaller, do full remove, boot system in normal mode and install 14.4 drivers.

I did, in fact I do every time I update drivers But I had a hell of a time with mom.implemention errors I had nothing but problems with 14.4

i've had zero problems with AMD drivers for a long time, just installing over the top.

i dont use any cleaner programs either - i truly believe they CAUSE all the problems you're having.

I haven't done anything more than run AMD's uninstall utility, restart, reinstall latest driver for a long time. Except on my laptop using modded drivers, but even then, not also necessary.

Pretty much all I do as well which has resulted in 0 issues, I rarely do the uninstall utility unless there is some particular reason I need to test something.

Actually, no, not at all. I only tried DDU because it was said 14.6b was finicky to install.

As I said above, in the end 14.6b installed just as easily as any other Cat driver, WHQL or beta, using my tried and true method detailed above.

Yep ill definitely second that I always over install without issue.
The one time I used the un install tool I ended up having to full format and start again.

I can't believe Mussels would advocate overwriting AMD drivers, and even imply not doing so would actually CAUSE such problems. That would only be the case with a very poorly made and not thoroughly tested and approved uninstall tool. Hell, even Nvidia for some time now have had a clean install method written into their installer that uninstalls the old driver first.

There are occasionally poorly made uninstall tools. Like I said, I don't like DDU and I really don't get whey people here advocate it. What's more common though is people not having a clue how to use an uninstall tool properly.

Maybe AMD has designed their drivers so they delete what they need to of a previous driver, or properly overwrite an old one without issue? Do you uninstall a game and then reinstall the entire thing when a patch comes out?

no issues with drivers here for quite some years now.
I don need to use uninstallers any more that time is long past. but i do go to device manager and uninstall the card, and tell it to delete the software when it asks.
then just restart and reinstall
(I always extract the installer files then go run as administrator. they are self extracting and executing. so i prefer to do that my self)

many years ago a new driver install from ati would = try to install watch the progress bar stop.see that drivers weren't installed. manually direct device manager at the inf file. go to run CCC find that it wont open. try again still wont open, end task on mom. try again still wont open, reinstall CCC "error"
uninstall drivers clean all traces of amd files from pc with a utility. try again "repeat if needed"

Im really glad those days are over.
You can in all likely hood just hit install and not worry about anything these days. But i still uninstall the drivers from device manager my self.

That's not a very good example to make your point because a game patch fixes or sometimes adds one small part to a huge file, whereas with drivers you're replacing one whole driver with another.

That's not to say it can't or won't work to overwrite, there's just more margin for error vs a clean install. There's a reason it's called a clean install. The only exception like I said is if you're using a poorly made uninstall tool, or aren't using it properly.

To put it another way, we all know how horrible Windows is at repairing it'self by overwriting vs formatting the OS. This is the same thing on a smaller scale.

actually, he's right and you're not. the whole reason people are having issues is these drivers assume that leftover files and registry entries remain, so they dont update them - and when they arent found, things go to shit.

the drivers are designed for two things: clean install from windows drivers, or update to existing drivers. Sometimes they cant handle these shitty programs that half delete things, or miss one registry value. unless these programs are updated and tested on EVERY driver release instead of just doing searches and deleting everything with AMD in the name, you really shouldnt trust them.

driver cleaners are a last resort - not a first choice.

I can't believe Mussels would advocate overwriting AMD drivers, and even imply not doing so would actually CAUSE such problems.

I second this. I have been using DDU (with CCleaner after) I have had ZERO issues with installing new drivers, nVidia or AMD. Before I discovered DDU my installation issues mirrored many here. Since the 2012 drivers I have had the worst problems using AMD's uninstaller. It got so bad I often had to do a clean reinstall of Windows because not only were the old drivers not being completely uninstalled, but the new ones would not successfully install/overwrite.

This is the most painless efficient method:
1) Download the new drivers
2) Run DDU
3) Install new drivers
4) Enjoy a smooth pain free process that takes 3 minutes and two restarts

I always install over my old driver or use the installers clean install mode if i think their is an issue. i dont like programs like DDU or revo because iv seen uninstallers mangle the registry. and delete root folders they arent supposed too.

As an anecdote, I have had no problems with AMD's built in uninstaller.

why are the people who dont use cleaners not having issues, but the ones who swear by them the ones with problems?

just to add to this.
i rarely reinstall windows. even with a new build re using the old hard disk i just do sysprep from the cmd. 4/5 times it works as intended.
windows xp's repair function used to work really well.
the only time i reinstall is if my only other choice is system restore. i find that rarely works properly with 7, and can cause me to lose files i really dont want to lose. and it will delete exe files from folders which weren't an issue.
even then all i do is install windows and then transfer files from windows.old
i have taken to doing manual registry back ups every so often so just move the files then run the reg file.

so that was just in response to the windows repair don't work well and you need to do a fresh install.

I just recently got a new 270x and had 5870 drivers installed. I uninstalled the old drivers and installed the latest drivers non beta and even though the card was working CCC would not open.

So I used DDU though safe mode., checked the don't install updates on reboot and it not only detected my old card, it removed it and the latest non beta drivers after which I installed the beta and have been problem free since. CCC opens and I have DDU to thank.

I am missing half of my toolbar icons on the bottom right in Windows 7 64-bit with 14.6.. I am unable to open Sapphire Trixx because of this. Anyone else experiencing this problem?
