Unlike previous versions, 186.24 beta is aggressively changing clock speeds from 2D to low-power 3D to performance 3D. So much so, that the card changes to 2D only if the PC is completely idle (no mouse pointer movement). It changes to performance 3D if I even move the mouse. The card is warmer than usual. I'm not really looking for solutions, but are you observing something similar?

Where on earth did you find 186.24? The most current beta on Nvidia site is 186.08 and the WHQL is 186.18.

I see your clock changes Bta, but your temps are still solid. How much of an increase did you notice? 5°?

My card should stay at 38~40 degrees at 2D speeds.

This is from an old screenshot:

Oh, damn. I'll check it out and see if I'm experiencing the same.

Edit: might want to throw a link in the OP for the driver download.

I'm not having that issue with my GTX285.

Try cleaning the drivers and re-installing maybe?

I installed the driver the way I usually do:

uninstall current driver > reboot > clean every trace of the driver > reboot > install new driver.

Should I try again?

Thats up to you. If you don't mind it, I wouldn't bother. It might just be a bug with the beta driver.

Edit: Just did a few more test with it, and it seems the problem does happen with my card as well. However, it only starts after I run a 3D app. Then it seems to get stuck in 3D Mode...

I went back to 186.18 WHQL. I'm sure my GTX 260 can move the mouse pointer and run Aero UI at 300/600/100 MHz.

Yes, that Performance 3D speed lock issue used to happen with 185.xx drivers for me. Sometimes the PC would start up and stay at perf-3D clocks, and I had to start a heavy 3D app (such as Furmark) and close it, so it would go back to 2D.

So the general consensus is that the 186.24 is not worth the change? I am wondering does it give you any additional adjustable settings or not? Now that nTune is integrated into the Nvidia System Monitor program alot of the features that nTune had available are no longer. I am wanting to have the tweakablitiy that came with the nTune program and I would rather avoid the BIOS methodology if I can. Sorry to hijack your thread to find out what I need.

NVIDIA Performance is not part of the GeForce driver package. A new release of GeForce driver doesn't update/add anything into the NV Performance app. It's just a module in the NV Control Panel.
