i would buy more than one drive.. having all your eggs in one basket aint ideal.. i like a smallish operating system drive and a bigger storage drive or drives..

burners are burners.. they dont last long if u use em but they dont cost much either..

if u want to stay near top end two years is too long.. a year is a long time in the hardware world.. trying to keep a mobo for two years again isnt really practical..

if u just want a fast gaming machine for today u could do it a lot cheaper.. then in a years time throw out the much cheaper mobo cpu and bung in a more up to date one..

for a gaming machine 340 quid for a cpu and mobo is way way over what u need to pay.. so is 95 quid for a power supply..

but its u thats building it.. lots of luck..

check out OC/UK for a good idea of UK prices.. not the cheapest but they have lots of stuff..

Well I wasn't sure about the problems of pre-built systems until I read this forum :p (And all the arguments AGAINST them!) So yeah I'm glad I read this forum ^_^

Oh yeah, my girlfriend's brilliant like that ^^ :D:D:D

I have no idea about PSU's, I just went through the list and sought out the best one which I thought was..
I did aim for a higher effiency and a higher wattage incase I wish to upgrade.

(I will look more into hard drives since it makes sense I suppose, wish I could afford a Raptor  )

I'm still torn between motherboards as well.. :(

I'm with you on that. If something happens to your OS, you won't be screwed. A 80gb is the highest I'd go for your OS system, and start at 160 for the other.. You can all ways partition your bigger drive and make it to where you store things better.

Well I've ordered the 8800GT.. should be here before the new year, :)
I'll sort out the cooling of it at a later date, (Looking at the Accelero S1+turbo fan module thingies :p)

I'll look around at some more hard drives, motherboards and psus

Accelero S1 coolers work great fanless so unless you have bad airflow in your case the turbo fans arent needed

some bits i have just ordered from OC/UK.. thye are to go with an amd system but would equally go with any intel system..

Akasa AK-170BL4B Crystal 4x Blue LED Speed Control Fan 1 £5.99

HIS ATI Radeon HD 3850 Pro Turbo X 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail 1 £119.99

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) 1 £27.99

OCZ StealthXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply 1 £49.99

Samsung SpinPoint T 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD501LJ) £66.00

add the vat at 17%.. it come to £317 with postage..

u could have a small raptor as your boot operating system drive.. even a 36 gig one would do the job nicely.. your games and stuff could go on the bigger drive..

trog

ps.. just for interest these bits will go on an amd 6000+ cpu £90 oem.. abit an52 mobo £43.. plus artic cooler pro £14.. these prices include vat..

a nice budget gaming system that will play any game out there.. total cost with £50 case less than 500 quid..

just an idea of what it can be done for.. all bits from OC/UK

Hm.. so what I need to do is.. get some cooling for the GPU..

I found the - OCZ StealthXStream 600W PSU for £50, is that enough to power up the system I want?

Throw them into a Cosmos 1000..

Just gotta choose a decent motherboard :)

I could make a gamer system like yours Trog100, for a family friend of mine, if I succesfully make my mid-upper range one first ^__^

(Edit: 36gb Raptors would set me back.. £65 + some 500 GB Samsung HD501LJ Spinpoint = £64.. would that be worth the cost?)

(Ah would anyone recommend the GA-P35-DS4 motherboard? I've read good reviews about it, but I'm not sure if there are any bad points about it..)

the ocz psu is nicely made and nicely priced.. looks nice as well with black sheathed cables and plugs.. its enough for what u want.. it will run two reasonable grafix cards..

the small raptor and 500 samsung would do nicely together.. the raptor is a long lasting enterprise drive.. its expensive but as a boot up drive its ideal.. leave it mostly empty.. just windows and a few basic programs on it..

the abit ip35 pro is a nice board.. it comes with abit guru.. nice and easy overclocking from windows.. its what i am using at the moment.. about £120 from OC/UK..

After much thought.. this should be build I am purchasing .. :toast:

Case: Coolermaster RC 1000 (£100+ £10-20) (With some extra Antec tricool 120mm fans) (futureproofed case hopefully)

CPU: Q6600 G0 stepping (£160) (+Arctic cooling freezer 7) (Will not be buying any new Cpu's till 2009, so hopefully intel and amd are still fighting it out until then :D I'm hoping the CPU cooler will be enough for a slight overclock)

RAM: Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2PC2-6400C4 (£50) (No complaints? :D)

Motherboard: Abit IP35 pro £110 (Read around the internet and seemed solid as a high end P35 board :D)

Power supply: OCZ stealthstream £50 (Seems a good place to save some money)

Hard drive: 36gb raptor £65 + 500gbsamsung spinpoint £65 (Raptor for OS, Samsung for storage, should be enough.. I think I could also buy another samsung if I wanted to have some more GB in the future or replace them)

Graphics: Palit 8800gt £140 ( Ordered it already - I hope its got the one with the decent cooler fan on it.. If I want to overclock it I'll probably replace it anyways)

That comes around £740 which is a good price for me for what I am paying for I hope ^_^

(Not including peripherals I guess)~

The hard part will be putting everything together succesfully for me :p and making my cable management pretty!

Just wanted to thank everyone again for the advice and opinions :respect::respect::respect:

If anyone does has anything to add though, please do, because I haven't ordered everything yet :pimp:
