i have 2 sata harddrive my primary which has vista 64 ultimate, and my old one which has windows xp pro sp3 on it, now i want to use the xp hardrive as a storage unit but cannot afford to reformatt it, why wont it just let me set it as a slave...i dont understand how to do this on sata hardrives yet, is it just with jumpers like old hardrive or do they have to plug into a diffrent sata port on the motherboard

Make sure that your Vista drive is set to 1st boot priority. I have two HDs, no jumper settings required for me, but I had to adjust the boot priority in order to get both HDs to work.

hmmmm,,,ill try that, i think i just did though but ill give it another shot.

it recognizes it in bios, i set the boot config told it to boot as second, and still no go in windows..BLARG!

Try "Start", then right click on "computer" and select "manage". then go to "disk management" and you should be able to get it going there. All my disks are ok so I cant see what you will see but I think you will need to select the drive and initialise it as though its a brand new drive, maybe not. I DONT KNOW IF YOU WILL LOOSE THE DATA THIS WAY:)

okay i can see it in there, but i dont see a option to initalize it
hmmm im gonna keep looking

Nevermind bro! your the best got it, appreicate it, thank you
