Love all the folks that came through here to bash 8GB of VRAM on a mid ranged GPU.

Where was the hate for the RTX 2060 6GB? I don't recall any massive threads about last gen mid ranged GPU being hated for 6GB of VRAM. After the slightly beefier specs on the 2060 12GB that came out recently it was proven that the added RAM made almost no difference for it. Do you guys honestly think 12GB would make any real difference on the 3060Ti?

The 3060Ti is a mid ranged card. It has 8GB of VRAM. It works very well for it's capabilities of handling any 1080p resolution and handling 1440p fairly well. You'd think people would get the F over the mid ranged GPU with 8GB of VRAM that was released 2 years ago and move on.

As for the OP - the 3060 Ti can give you upwards of 25% faster performance in most games at any resolution, compared to the 3060. If you feel spending about $500 and then recouping about 2/3 of that money for selling your 3060 is a good choice for you, I'd say go for it.

Yeah I'll probably hold off I think. I don't want to get stuck with two cards. It took longer than expected to sell my 1060. $100 out of pocket for that additional bit is steep. If the market was still slammed it would be an easy decision. Also, nice monitor.

8GB worth of vRAM textures is low quality

Well if you want to load 8 gig of textures you will need a bigger capacity, there is other things that go in VRAM as well. ;)

Bear in mind there is a big difference between loading 8 gigs of VRAM in say a small room, vs an open world area. If you doing streaming you also need spare capacity to load in new textures for areas coming up vs, on loading screens, you can flush it all and load in the empty area. Because consoles use video memory for loading normal data as well (some call it unified memory), we will see this practice more and more on PC ports, as was the case in far cry, and is the case in FF7 remake. This is even before RTX IO gets rolled out.

It is funny whenever someone mentions scenarios that may need more VRAM, some seem offended by it almost. :)

Here Horizon Zero uses more than 8gb in 1080, COD Warzone uses more than 10, almost entirely using the 3060 vram at 1440p:

Honestly, as much as i'm in the "8GB is the minimum now" crowd it's super easy for 99% of people to just run medium textures and not come close to it.
