3870 is awesome

i got a 3870 from some guy in my complex yesterday through it in and instance overclocked it, and the reviews are all lies(stupid nvidia fanboy websites) this single card i have clocked at 840/1151 48-58c 40%fan speed the whole time, this is all with vysnc enable i was able to play bioshock 1920*1200 max settings at 1920*1200 never dropped below 55fps directx 10, crysis 1680*1050 very high/high settings i was able to reach 30-40 fps, assasins creed 1920*1200 maxed out 30-60fps constant 60 1680*1050, cod4 1920*1200 never dropped below 40fps max settings, fearmp 1920*1200 almost 40-60 the whole time and the list goes on i'm never trusting benchmarks again and geesh talk about price to performance...so long nvidia. and just a single card in 3dmark06 gave me 12336 with my cpu at 3.2ghz.

and i got a second one in the mail coming for crossfire, quick question though do i need two crossfire bridges to make it crossfire or just one?

I always thought you only needed one unless you were using a res over 1920x1200, but the current Cat drivers actually tell you to use both bridges. Go figger...

Glad you enjoy the new card, I had two of them and they were fantastic the whole time I owned them. I've since bought a single 4850 and I'm loving that as well.

As for Crossfire you will only need a single bridge to have it work properly UNLESS you're using a resolution of 1600 and above (aka 1680*1050 or 1920*1080 and such). That's the only time you'll need two bridges and before you ask...No two bridges will not give you any extra performance

Unless you bought the card directly from someone it will most likely come with another bridge in the box. Every video card I've purchased (ATi that is) came with a bridge in the box so you'll end up with extras depending on your motherboard. My motherboard came with two long bridges and the cards each came with 1 short bridge of their own.

Some HD cards dont have a bridge. I dunno why some manufacturers dont bundle one they dont cost much to make - but some manufacturers really penny-pinch. Worst case scenario you can probably blag one if you try enough graphics\mobo manufactures or find one on ebay.

Benchmarks are garbage. That's why I recently started to test every card I get my hands on. When a person buys a card, they will run the thing at the settings that's best for them.
In these time of super gfx, they all will play games at playable settings.
Buying these crazy high-end cards are only for ppl who don't care money or don't try to play at the settings the best for the game - They just want to max out everything.
Some games will maxed out with mid-range cards, then there are crappers like Crysis that murder any card when completely maxed out...

i agree with you on the benchmarks being biased in some way. thats why i'm doing the projects in my sig . its always good and more authentic to hear from a forum member.

can you test the AA hit on that card, because everybody said that it has broken AA .

yeah i cranked the aa all the way up with the end game options and only lost like 5fps which is not biggy for me can't wait till the other card gets here so i can see what it was like to have the high end cards of last year in crossfire.

are you sure ? , my cpu must be holding my 3870 back then (x2 6000+ @3.2ghz) . my fps half's when aa is turned on

Just want to agree with the original poster.

I got the 3870 back in January with my new rig and have had no problems what sover.

No reason to upgrade anything right now.. Honestly I am not sure why people need so much horsepower it could be the other parts of the system slowing it down somewhat.

I may get a second 3870 just because its so cheap and Xfire it, but honestly no reason to. I want to see if the rumour is true about 38xx working with 48xx in future cat 8.7.

The 3870 idles nicely at 300mhz.

Use the cfg ppl. W/o it, the backgrds refresh everytime you move. That's why even the GTX280 gets bogged down on the last lvl when its maxed out.
