Ok, a buddy of mine has :rockout: $4000 :rockout: to blow on a balls-to-the-wall gaming system.
Minimums: Conroe, dual-graphics cards, physics accelorator, 320GB storage, 4GB RAM, liquid cooling.

E6800 Conroe
DFI Infinity 975X
X-Fi Platinum
X1950XTX Crossfire
Asus PhysX
Raid 150GB Raptor X
Lian Li v1000
Vapochill (water sucks. :P)

um the hardware is pretty easy really. i would get dual 320gb hdds in raid 0. 2x1gb is more then enough for now and high speed 2gb ddr2 is a rarity. make sure he gets a huuuge lcd and nice speakers. they make the biggest difference. i think a mx518 and a g15 are a neccecity also.

its x6800 btw poge

but i would do the e6700 and o/c it too the equivelent of a x6800 and run dual 7900gt's asus phsyx dual raptor 74gb raid 0 and a big 500gb sata hitatchi from there other than getting an asus w/ nvidia chipset i agree w/ poge

swifttech has a new TEC cooler for high end graphics cards wheee! with that money duel pelt cool those babies! tho he may need to use a car chassie to house all the gear in haha

U could get all that for what about 2k?

get a quad-processor mobo ;D

2xdual core opteron's, or 2xdual core xeon's :D

Yeah xeons have phat bandwidth, and they've ALWAYS been 64-bit.

make sure you get a nice 20-22 inch samsung widescreen monitor, 2 X150 raptors. Some real nice expencive ram and a couple of good ati grafics cards (best ones if he dont want a duel dx10 set-up soon as its out)

sorry for no links, just what I would get. wish I could max f.e.a.r. out with my 1900gt maxed:P

nvidia nforce 590 mommy board
what ever flavor conroe he wants 2 xfx7900 gtx xxx videos
2x raptor 150's raid 0 4 1 gig corsair ddr/800 some nice dvd-rws nice ones
a good 600 watt power supply dont skimp
the conroe wont need water cooling so water cool the video cards
and a koolance pc4-1036bk liquid cooled case
and you should have enough left over for a monitor maybe :D

you can do all that for 4 grand?
not bad
oh I see no speakers that could be a problem with that sound card :D

lol 600watt what you smokin 1kw coolermaster
2 7950s
e6700 (o/c beyound the 6800 of couse this is b/c the performace gain between the e6700 and x6800 isnt worth the gain in speed)
nvidia 590 mobo
4x 1gb corsair ddr2 800 (2x dual channel)
4x 74gb raptors raid 4
1x 500gb hitatchi
there that beats everything you asked for

do a raptor 36.7 for the operating systerm and 2x 150Gb raptor x's for multimedia/games

Don't forget to disable the paging file for him

still think raid 4 would be faster

E6800 Conroe
DFI Infinity 975X
X-Fi Platinum
X1950XTX Crossfire
Asus PhysX
Raid 150GB Raptor X
Lian Li v1000
Vapochill (water sucks. :P)

Add in some water for the dual GPU's and you're good to go. No guarantees with the DFI however. :ohwell:

Pcpower and cooling PSU.

do a raptor 36.7 for the operating systerm and 2x 150Gb raptor x's for multimedia/games

36.7gb raptor gets smoked by the 16mb cache maxtors I wouldnt bother.. if anything just raid 0+1 a few 150gb raptors....

then a 70GB for the OS
